Yeah, but the big difference, Nissan isn't losing money hand over fist. And 300 buyouts is nothing to the tens of thousands that have been laid off by GM and Ford over the last 5 years.

Personally the decline in truck/huge suv sales is a natural response to changing times and i find it a welcoming sight. Traffic, parking and gas costs will level the segment down to a more realistic quantity - like elsewhere.

And, I bet they thought they could leave behind a certain number of people when they moved the design group from California. That must be a sight, a bunch of Californians in Tennessee. Maybe they can take a few out in the woods and lose them.

I know of a lot of real good hiding places here in Tn.......
Californians in Tennessee! OMG!?!?! What a disastrous thing THAT could be! OMG!!!!!!! I'd hate to see that happen! We MUST start a petition to deport them!

There is already one here that we all know too well....I think he lives in Maryville ........

And what would you do if you had to call Nissan for any information, and there was no one to take your call?
The personnal that moved were from Corporate HQ in Gardena CA, not from the design group.
To quote Mr B. "Sorry my bad, I didn't know they had computers in Kentucky."
Didn't Burt Reynolds make a movie in that part of the country?

Nissan dumped a huge capital investment into the Mississippi plant. The cost of labor is still economical in this area. They should be able to weather the down turn in sales if they can control expenditures.
Perhaps they should make a military version of the Titan for sale in the Middle-East. One with a 50. cal mounted on top.

Ford and Chevy have to really be figgeting in their seats about the new full size Tundra. It looks like Toyota is going after Ford and Chevy (oops...and Dodge too) in a big way. Not only did Toyota upgrade to the full size stats (towing abilty, payload, etc.) thay are offering the truck in a bewildering array of variations. In the past the import trucks were offered only in certain models and limited number of trim levels along with a limited option list. For instance when I bought a Pathfinder back in the 80's you had the base,xe and LE models and a few packages. If you wanted a moon roof you had to get the luxury package which was $2,200.00 and included a whole bunch of other junk. I heard Toyota has 37 model variants with the new truck and an extensive options list. I am guessing the Big (almost) Three can be reassured of two things:
(1) Its hard to sell a import truck to a full sized Dodge/Chevy/Ford owner living in Montana (or places similar).
(2) Toyota won't be able to make them fast enough.
Tim
by the way ....my next truck is gonne be a Ford F-150. :-)
God Bless America (and Mexican/Canadian assembly plants of course)
