Easiest place for a wire from dash through firewall to frame?

First, I'm not sure where to post this question, so I'll start here where more eyes will see it.

Second, I'm gonna install a remote trunk release with a release button under the dash. I plan to run a wire through the firewall down to the frame and back to the rear storage compartment where I'll have a solenoid that opens the lock for the storage compartment. I think I pretty well have it all figured out, except after a couple of quick inspections I haven't seen an easy to access wire harness running through the firewall - which I figured would be simple to spot.

Does anybody know where one is? I could always drill a new hole and seal it, but I'd rather use an existing one if I can access it without too much trouble.

And last question, (for now anyway) what's the best place to connect to for power that's always hot on the driver's side? Back in the old days, I'd just run the wire end under a fuse, but am hoping to do something a little more professional!

Thanks!

You can pass a wire through the rubber grommet that has the hood release cable on the driver's side. On the passenger side there's a big gap where the AC condensor thingamajig is. If you want to run a wire out back from inside the cab, right behind the passenger side rear seat is a rubber plug that a wire can pass through. For power, under the driver's side dash is a big harness full of power wires, some are constant, some are ign. on.

Thanks BBF - I don't think I'm going to have a chance to look in daylight before the weekend. The hood cable grommet sounds perfect - hopefully I'll be able to look and do this weekend. Thanks for the feedback.

My 2004 SE also had an unused grommet between the hood latch and the steering column. I had to cut some of the firewall liner out to get to it, but it a perfect for running small wires. I just popped it out, punched a hole in it, and then ran the wires through it before popping it back in. I can take a pic tonight or tomorrow morning.

Thanks! Was it easier to spot from inside the cab or engine compartment? I haven't been able to look when there is much light. And I was surprised to find the inside has both carpet and foam sound insulation which I'm going to need to take a little time to figure out if and how to remove or at least work around.
