Nice forum. Theres a ton of info here. Maybe I can contribute soon. Thanks in advance for any replies.
Now to my question..Last June I bought an 06 tundra CC..To sum it up I am not really pleased with this truck and just cant see myself keeping it for 5 years. Due to my large down payment, I am able to get out of this truck but of course I will still take a nice lump. Obviously I cant trade out every year so I need to keep the next one awhile.
Now the 2 trucks I am shopping.
1. 2007 GMC/Chevy..No need to explain, they are re-done and pretty impressive IMO, but its still a chevy...
2. Nissan Titan...The dealer here has more than a couple of 2006 Titans left. With my VPP pricing and rebates, the 32G sticker becomes 23G. This is a 4x2 CC SE popular, RF, w/all the stuff in the bed. Dealer installed billet grill and wood grain dash kit. NOT BT....About 100 miles on it.
My problem is that when I commit to buying the Titan, I get crap in my neck. I read all the problems with the rattles, brakes and especially differentials and it scares me off the truck. As I have been shopping different brands of trucks, when I tell them I am considering a Titan, the other dealers (ford, chevy, toyota) bash the Titan pretty hard for its reliability, resale and economy. But yet, when I ask around town a bit I generally talk to satisfied people. I love the Titans room, power and looks. I should have bought it over the tundra to begin with, but I fell for the perceived toyota quality and 0% didnt hurt. I hate to pass over this 2006 model because I think its a helluva deal.
I know all trucks have problems, but am I just asking for it with a Titan??? Have the rear ends been upgraded in 2006? Or is this problem not as big as I am making it out to be? I guess I am just looking for some piece of mind before I pick a truck this weekend....Can someone help me?? I need a hug!
I have owned my Titan since June of 2004 and I have a little over 40,000 miles on her. I have enjoyed every minute of ownership and love having this truck. It's nice to drive around town and still have a pretty unique truck compared to the thousands of new F-150's and Rams I see.
I have had all minor problems with my truck all easily fixed and I might add the dealer was happy to fix them (Try that with Chevrolet, been there, done that). The only one I would consider a major problem is the upgraded brakes. Nissan took care of this problem for most of us and you have nothing to worry about on a 2006! I believe the Rear Diff was also upgraded in 2006?
Make the jump and do not worry to much about everything. If you do have some problems, bulid a good relationship with your dealer and Nissan will take care of you.

Toyota's are great trucks and so if you're not pleased with it, I'd like to know why because simply buying another truck and expecting something may also not prove wise...
I've had my Nissan since 2004 and fully expect that a first run production vehicle will have the normal set of break in issues. So far, nothing that I haven't expected has happened; a few rattles, a seatbelt and trailer wiring recall, and replacing my front brakes because the rotors warped from being too small. Not a big deal in the scheme of things...
The spidergears have been changed in late 2005 but that does not mean that 2006's apparently can't have failures. Since we are on a forum, the issue is bound to come up but if you look at the number of Titans on the road, this issue is very very minute...
Again the Tundra is a great truck IMHO and I do not know what your expectations are, what you're looking for in a truck, or what you've done up to this point to make your current truck fit your needs...
Welcome to Titantalk...

I have a 2006 KC LE i bought new in July. I just turned 15k miles and have yet to return to a dealer for any problems. A few minor, one-time issues (AC froze up on a long trip and a little vibration from the tires that cleared up after 100 miles). The aux jack may not be working but it could also be the cheap cable I bought for the Ipod. All in all, a very satisfying truck -brakes are great, about 16 mpg overall and rear diff is flawless. Most of all, it is very quite with no rattles. Go for the Titan - that is a good price and you will be happy.
The two significant problems in the Titan were the brake judder and rear ends. Both in 04 and some 05. Basically, the 06 is the most trouble free year, 07 should be very good also. In Independent surveys by JD Power and others, users rated the Titans as #1 in owner satisfaction. Those with negative views are usually stuck on outdated info from 04 models and Consumer Reports continued comments which are also based on the 04.
Today, the Titan is an outstanding bargain. Great room, power, towing ability, style, features (which GMC and Toyota are finally copying on their new releases) and holds resale value as well. I would choose no other truck for my particular needs than the Titan.

29K on my truck....truck runs strong...no real mechanical failures. Only problem is a annoying dash face that creaks when the road is rough and when its cold. Another thing is a noise on the right side of the truck. Now 2 minor problems like that....with 29K on the truck....I would have to say this truck is far better than the 92 4wd 4runner that our family purchased new back then. Within the first year their was a recall on the head gaskets......oh yeah...another recall came in not to long ago for fatigue cracks in the steering bar. The TITANS brakes and diff are working great.

1. 2007 GMC/Chevy..No need to explain, they are re-done and pretty impressive IMO, but its still a chevy...Impressive? LOL! To each his own, but why would you even consider a Chevy over the F150, Titan or a new Tundra? It's old..old..old under the fugly skin, and what new features it has, were copied from the Titan. The bed system is a joke. It looks like the Chevy designers used an erector set for their bed management system. It's also overpriced.

As I have been shopping different brands of trucks, when I tell them I am considering a Titan, the other dealers (ford, chevy, toyota) bash the Titan pretty hard for its reliability, resale and economy. Just what would you expect the other dealers to say, they love the Titan? They hate it, because it's the better truck. But yet, when I ask around town a bit I generally talk to satisfied people. I love the Titans room, power and looks. I should have bought it over the tundra to begin with, but I fell for the perceived toyota quality and 0% didnt hurt. Perceived quality, that says it all right there. Defective ball joints, sludging engines, crappy brakes, squeeks and rattles. I hate to pass over this 2006 model because I think its a helluva deal.First off, what you see today is not what was sold in 2004. I'm on my third, and will buy #4 very soon. You aren't going to find anything better. Brakes were fixed by mid 2005. Ford has used the Dana 44 for 50 years, no outward problems. But it wasn't designed for 300HP, and the lead feet of the younger set. Rattles? None here. You have a plastic dash, so if you drive off road, you soon will have rattles. It's all about plastic rubbing on plastic, with plastic clips holding the stuff together. All the new stuff is built the same way. It's your choice, buy what you want, but do your own testing, it's your money. Forget about everything you read or heard. Do your own analysis.
I know all trucks have problems, but am I just asking for it with a Titan??? Have the rear ends been upgraded in 2006? Or is this problem not as big as I am making it out to be? You need something, but it ain't a hug.
Haven't bought one yet, and you are already whining. Adavis put together an excellent review called the best of titantalk. Read that. Personally from reading your post, you'd be better off buying that Chevy. Then you won't be coming here crying ma ma, ma ma about every little thing you don't like. And, btw, both the Chevy and Ford have had brake judder for years, with no fix in sight.
Yup, buy the Chevy, than ask the salesman for a hug. If you've signed the contract, I doubt he will give you one.
No rearend or brake troubles here.....I had a rear axle seal leak two spoonfulls in 2 1/2 years and a small leak in a tranny cooling line, both were taken care of with no flack from the dealer....Get the Titan you will love it !!!!!!.Don`t beleive everything you hear from a few assbags....
Oh, by the way, at 51,000 miles i told my service manager that i thought i felt a brake judder (just wanted the updated brake fix) and he said bring it in...Boom, new brakes and rotors free !!!!!!!
Awesome truck and service for 3+ years !!!/ Thanks Nissan !!!

Beating a Dodge is like banging a fat chick - Everyone can do it but who wants to brag about it?
2004 KC 4x4 SE, 52,000 miles, only the brakes have been changed out by the dealer, and I had a sensor in the transfer case go out, at 5,000 miles. I did add the PML cover in June 2004, but haven't had any problems. You are lucky, because the Toyotas usually have good trade-in value, especially compared to all of the other full-size trucks. The 2007 long bed crew cabs look really nice, and most of the problems are likely fixed since 2004.
I hope this first post is geniune and not another backhanded 'Let me tell you how nice I personally think the Titan is, but everyone tells me they are so unreliable' post. We've seen our share of those on here.
Mistake # 1 is putting too much faith in consumer reports. They lock into one bad review and use that as the benchmark for a product forever. Not to mention, I think a lot of customer complaints are to be taken with a grain of salt. For instance, someone doesn't like how the radio display reflects in the rear window (doesn't really bother me) and they give a negative review of the truck based on that. Sounds crazy, but I've seen people do it.

If it makes you feel any better, I had more problems/repairs with my old Tundra than I've had with my Titan after 3 months of ownership. My only complaint on the Titan is the useless and squeaky brakes that that Nissan puts on the truck. I'm seriously thinking about putting after market brakes on it when the time comes. I'd do it sooner than later but I just ordered a Leer 700 Series Tonneau cover that's setting me back roughly $900.
