I have to do it.

It's come to the point were I'm paying more for gas than I'm paying for the truck by a lot! I stoped commuting with it back in Sept 07 and have just been using it for trips to the dump or tow my trailer. Now I can't see paying for it to sit in my yard 6 days of the week, so I'm going to have to trade it in for something I can commute with. I hate to do it but it would cost me about $600 a month to start to commute with it again.

Re: I have to do it.

All I can say is good luck on the trade in. Those guys know whats up. I made a similar decision, parked my truck. Traded my motorcycle on a Honda and have the best of both worlds now. Fellas we may become a dying breed soon!!!!

Re: I have to do it.

Tough times calls for tough decisions you gotta do what you gotta do to survive in these times. As for me I will not give away my truck to the stealers. I have two years left of payments, than if gas is still high it will sit for special occasions. I have a solid BMW 323i that gets me to work at 25 mpg and rides better than any honda or toyota out there and its paid for.

I am riding my CBR in almost any kind of weather now, and just using the truck when I have too. $27k truck is now worth about $14k trade-in - I F$(*ing LOATHE stealerships.

Re: I have to do it.

just be aware that you can buy alot of gas with the hit you will take on that trade in. Do you have any options for carpooling or ride sharing at all? If you could do that it could save you some money. If you need to bite the bullet then don't go out and trade it in on a hybrid or you will really loose your shirt. Good luck in you decision

Re: I have to do it.

I give my Titan a fond wave every day when I leave for work. With gas prices being as high as they are I bought a small used car for commuting. With all the associated costs I know I am not putting money in my pocket but I do feel better about where it is going now. Plus, due to horrible resale values on ANYTHING large, I am keeping miles off the Titan so I can keep it FOREVER!!!!!

Re: I have to do it.

I have my CBR for the commute. Although, I'm only 8 miles from work so even if I did have to take the Titan every day it wouldn't be too bad. But yeah, I ride the bike 3-4 days a week. Helps me save on fuel, and it's fun. 45+ MPG FTW!

Re: I have to do it.

I fired up the beast yesterday to Lowe's. I was laughing my arse off when i glanced at the ScangaugeII and saw a constant 9-12 mpg. And that was either at the speed limit or below it creeping up to it. Dang Uprev.......why did they have make her so thirsty!?!?!?!?!

Re: I have to do it.

A friend bought a small car to drive to work. He needed his Titan to pull his trailers. He told me his payments were 345 bucks a month plus insurance. I drive about the same miles per day in my Titan and it costs me about 4 bucks a day extra to drive my truck. I pay 120 bucks a month extra and he pays at least 380. Sometimes you need to think things out a little before making a move.

Re: I have to do it.

Do what's best for you, but my vote would be either smaller, used DD (most can be had under $5K) or motorcycle. You can get a small Honda / Kawaski cruiser for cheap also. Those are less costly alternatives to the hit you may take trading in a V8 truck that nobody is going to be in a hurry to purchase.

Re: I have to do it.

I haver a commuter right now thats borrowed. the problem is I hate driving it. Its a stripped down 2000 Mazda Protege 1.6. Its the slowest car i ever drove! And i'm going to have to return it someday.
I also have a motorcycle but it's not really street drivable anymore and New England winters are tough to ride a motorcycle in anyways.

The way I see it is why pay for a truck that I don't use? And what I use it for do I really need a $27K truck for dump runs and towing my trailer 15 miles to my local track? I will be going to the track a lot less also, I'm expecting twins in Oct.

I'm also probibly only up side down by 3k, Thats only 27 fill ups for the Titan! Or 4 months worth of gas!

It will only take 14 months to recoupe the 3K i loose in the trade if I do 2 less fill ups a month at the current gas prices.

Re: I have to do it.

In response to bigfinderman's thread about his buddy's F150 Hydrogen Kit on here, Stump_Breaker is working on making one for his Titan. If this is successful, it could be a breakthrough for us.
