Re: Just changed oil... WTF

I’ve never used Mobil 1 before, but with only 800 miles, I would think the oil should still be somewhat translucent. Hopefully someone who has experience with Mobil 1 can tell you their experience.

Re: Just changed oil... WTF

maybe just allot of left over crap in there, I'd dump that and put in a fresh change and see what you get.

I use Mobil 7500. I would agree with blkbelt65. Maybe just some left overs mixing with the new.

Re: Just changed oil... WTF

oil samples show chevron to be one of the best oils!... not saying it is the best, but just great oil... i bought a used truck from a guy one time who worked for chevron and said they dissassembled a motor after 100k miles and said they did it to the same motor with other "major"brands and the chevron was the cleanest..... seen the picture results myself..... you can also search the net and see for yourself that chevron/havoline is great.... again in no way am i bashing other oils just sticking up for the one that im diehard for goodluck on your mobil1

Re: Just changed oil... WTF

How many miles did you have on your truck before you switched to the syn. oil. The syn. oil will clean/strip all of the old sludge deposits out of your engine. Mobile 1 has a dino. oil to syn. oil change over procedure on there web site.

Here is the question from there web site.
Ask Mobil
Switching to Synthetic Oil in Higher Mileage Vehicles

Question:
Switching to Synthetic Oil in Higher Mileage Vehicles
Does switching from a petroleum-based oil to a fully synthetic oil on a higher mileage vehicle have any harmful effects? I've heard that the synthetic oil, because it is cleaner, may actually loosen some of the build-up from petroleum oil and has the potential of clogging the pump. Is this true or does one simply need to change the filter more frequently for the first few thousand miles after switching? Thanks
-- Michael Ritzke, Appleton, WI

Answer:
When switching to Mobil 1 in higher mileage vehicles, we recommend an initial short (2,000 to 3,000 miles) oil change, both oil and filter. This will allow Mobil 1 to clean some of the engine deposits that have accumulated over time. Following this initial short oil change, continue with your normal oil change interval.

I just changed mine at 4k, looked like shiiiiit! I poured a couple quarts through with the plug still off just to sweep out more of the crap. After that I plugged it up, new filter and put in 7 quarts.

Re: Just changed oil... WTF

I've also heard people say that you should use the same brand everytime. Anyone else follow that "rule"???

Re: Just changed oil... WTF

Yes! I do not swap brand. If you want to change from one brand to another you can but do not change brands at every oil change. Choose one brand and stick with it, changing brands to often will cause sludge to build up quickly.

Re: Just changed oil... WTF

Theres a filter? This is the first change I using mobil1, 12500 miles. Every change before this has been chevron supreme except for the first. The first change was at 2700 miles could the problem be that I waited to long for the first change. Thanks again for the help.

Do a little online oil research. It's normal for oil to to turn dark almost immediately....it means nothing. It will be more noticable when first changing from dino oil, which tends to gunk up or "coke" up. You'll always see your oil dark in color, although with continued synthetic use, you'll notice it less as time goes on. Relax, it's not a problem.

no, your overreacting. If your oil is dirty, thats means its doing its job. You WANT your oil to be dirty.
