sirius install problem

I just installed the oem kit from Jersey parts, All I get is acuiring that is it.
could I have got a bad tuner? I went to Walmart and got another antenna still don't work! I have called Sirius four times to have them send the signal with my radio on and the truck outside still nothing. I can't even get it to tune to 184 to get it to activate. What do you all think could be the problem?
Thanks,
Mark

Re: sirius install problem

I had that too with my XM radio. It was on their end that they needed to refresh the signal or whatever to lock on to.

I'm not sure about the kit you have. I have had 2 Sirius Sportster units over the past 3 years, and right out of the box I was able to receive the "preview" channel even before the units were activated. If the display just says "Acquiring Signal", then I would say it's either the antenna connection or the antenna port on the unit. If you have a friend that has Sirius, see if you can try your antenna on their unit so you can eliminate that as a possibility. Good luck on the install!

It is the oem kit from Nissan If your truck has the sat button it is pre wired for sat. radio. You just plug in the in bus plug into the Nissan tuner. I went and bought another antenna at Walmart still did not work.
Thanks.

Re: sirius install problem

I assume you have the SIGMA antenna - not sure what you bought at Walmart but I still think the problem is in the antenna. Did you mount the SIGMA in the black area behind the rearview mirror? All other areas of the windshield are IR reflective and the SIGMA cannot work. I had to have Sirius hit my unit three times and it never indicated it had received their signal. I finally got tired of waiting, turned it off and then on and it worked. Still, you should be able to tune to 184 and that is why i think the antenna is the problem. One last thing, make sure there are no big trees above your truck - they will block the signal.

Yes it is the sigma and yes I was out in the open with no trees. I have it mounted in the black where it is supposed to be. I got a magentic mount antenna from Walmart still nothing.

Re: sirius install problem

Thanks for closing the loop as I was curious. A bad receiver was about number ten on my guess list. Stuff like that happens - Brian treats people right.
