Squeky belt

so i took off my radiator cap to look in the radiator.(dont know why) and i got side tracked and just set it back on the fill spot w/o tightening it back down. i went for a drive smelt coolant. i stopped saw what i did let aout a few choice words, put the cap back on. then i went to the dealer and got a gallon of coolant. i got home let my motor cool sprayed my engine off w/ the hose to wash off the coolant. the next morning i go out and start it up and it sounded like there was a cat stuck in my fan. i got some WD40 and sprayed it onto my pullies and belt and it went away but when the WD dries up it does it again. Any way to stop a squeky belt. truck only has 8700 miles. i think the the hard water coming out of my hose got some deposits of minerals into my alternator bearings... any help would be appreciated...thanks clint

Re: Squeky belt

I wouldn't recommend wd-40, they make some stuff called belt dressing. Or you could just change the belt only like 20 bucks.

Re: Squeky belt

Bingo on the belt. It's a pretty cheap one. I'd swap that out for a new one and see what happens.

Re: Squeky belt

Never spray WD-40 or belt dressing on the sepentine belt. If you want to make sure if the the belt is causing the noise, just spray some water on it as it is running. If the noise goes away, replace the belt. Your belt probably got contaminated with antifreeze and that will cause it to slip and make strange noises, even a clattering noise. Once the belt slips and gets glazed, you have to replace it.
