The Titan is a half ton pickup therefore it only has a vehicle load weight capacity of approximately 1500lbs.for the XE and SE. The LE models are even less.
Most slide in campers weigh more than this except the ones with the roll up accordion style roof.

I had a hybrid pull behind for a few years. The Titan pulled it like a dream. I towed 22' long and about 3,500 pounds.
I have 5th wheel now, Keystone Outback w/ a single slider. 35' long, 8,500 pounds. I added an extra pair of leaf springs to the back to handle the pin weight (1,800#). No problems so far - but I have to tow it in 4th gear. Keeping the truck in over-drive heats up the tranny. Live and learn on that one.
I was interested in the ability to also take my boat. They make campers for S-10 and dakota trucks. I've heard that a few 1/2 truck campers such as Lance, will not fit the titan because of bed size. Just thought some folks on the board might know of a 1/2ton camper that would fit. Yes I know it's a 1/2 ton.

are you going highway speeds in 4th? just wondering because i made the mistake of leaving mine in 4th, then smelled burning and looked down and did an "oh ****", popped it in OD, no problemo.

If you're towing anything that large, you have to leave it in 4th...even on the highway. Try it. With mine, I can throw it into 5th on the highway as long as I keep as eye on the tranny temp guage...which DOES heat up fast in 5th. Anything but long downhills and completely flat highway with absolutely NO downshifting needs to be done in 4th (OD off). If you smelled burning, you have issues other than leaving it in 4th. Read your owners manual.

I don't think I'll ever go back to a slide in camper. Had an Alaskan on a Dodge 2500 Cummins with Banks. Added airbags, bigger shocks and springs, and it still was no fun to drive with that 1700-1800# turd on the back. Got an Airstream Bambi 16' CCD and it is the way to go if it's just you and your girl. Thing is, slide in campers are a ***** to get in and out of, they rub on your truck when you don't want it to, and just create a great big pain in the keaster. Get a travel trailer, and spend the cash to get a good one, but my advice is get the smallest one you can possibly get away with. Get to where you want to be, unhitch the thing, and have your truck to rock around in. Oh, you can also put a dirt bike in the back of the truck still If you tow a camper.
Agreed. Even a decent pop-up is better than a slide in. But I believe he's doing this so he can have the camper and tow something, like a boat, at the same time.
