wondering if someone can school me on these two mods. Pretty much need the 101 course on them. What do they do and how much am i looking to spend. I tried the search button, but it was just a bunch of links of people giving their opinions on it. if you have a thread that explains it, that would be great.
The 2 degree timing advance adds a little extra to the Titan. Not more than a couple of HP. I have never seen a dyno test that quantifies the change. Some claim they can feel a difference in the way their truck runs. I couldn't.
The Bully Dog (and other programmers) adjust a number of parameters in the truck's cpu. You can expect any where from 10 to 25 extra HP and approximately the same improvement in torque depending on the type of gas you run, the tune you select (regular, premium, etc.), and the tuner you use. Bully Dog and all of the other handhelds have generic tunes that fit most Titans without major modifications that include more than a CAI and cat back system. Uprev allows for custom tunes that are specifically for your truck. It is best for trucks with extensive modifications.
One of the most dramatic changes you can make with a programmer is the removal of the WOT, or wide open throttle, restriction. 2005 and later Titans have factory software that limits how far the throttle will open at low speeds. For 2WD the throttle is limited until you reach 40 mph. For 4X4 the limit is to either 12 or 15 mph. Removal of the WOT restriction turns a 2WD Titan into a different machine. Especially at lower speeds. It helps 4X4's but the WOT restriction on 4X4's is not as severe and the difference is not as great.
Hand held programmers run $300 to $350. Uprev is about $700.
I hope this helps.

Reason: Added costs
it takes a bullydog or some other tuner to do the 2* timing advance. If you plan on buying the BD yourself then you can do the timing advance and take it off at will if you want too. I believe what it does is make the vehicle run a little leaner than it used to, means more performance because the gas burns faster(not as much to burn) For this reason alot of people up the octane when they do a timing advance(usually more than the standard 2 degrees though) 2 degrees has been "declared" just as safe as the factory setting and you are still able to run the cheap stuff in the tank. if you went past 2 degrees then you would have to up the octane....I did alot of reading and I might be wrong, but this is what I think

o wow thanks for the write up!! so the bully dog is something more along the lines i would be looking for. I have a KC 06 2wd titan. I finally decided to start modding it. Now the bully dog programmer, how is the installation for it? something i can do myself or should i get a professional to do it? how much would i be spending on this mod? ATM, my only performance mod is a banks CB and i plan on a CAI within the next few weeks. If i install my CAI after the BD programmer, how would that effect anything?
so pretty much i can do one or the other?
2* aimed for more modded trucks while the BD is for us performance noobs driving around with a CB and CAI?
under your steering whell you have a plug, the bullydog plugs into it and that is it, you unplug it after you do what you want to do(2 degree timing advance, WOT restriction removeable, octane tunes etc) and toss it on the back seat or something

Installation with the Bully Dog is very easy. If you can install a program onto your home computer, you have all the skills you need. You install some update software on your computer from a CD that comes with the BD and plug a USB cable into the computer and the programmer. The Bully Dog will install the latest version of the software into the Bully Dog unit. Then you take the Bully Dog out to your Titan and plug it into the on board diagnostics port that is located just under your steering wheel. Follow the instructions that come with the Bully Dog and it will download the file onto your trucks cpu. It is the easiest performance mod you will ever do and the only one where your hands will not get dirty.
With the Banks and a CAI you will be fine.
Figure $300 to $350 for the programmer but add a few bucks to your budget for the extra gas you will use playing with your truck and get ready for a sore jaw from all of the smiling you are going to do. Here's a link to the place where I and many others bought my BD. http://www.burt**manindustries.com/z...=ttnk_bullydog (Delete the ** and cut and paste. For some reason you can't post the link)

ah ok, still a lil bit blurry on it. The turkc is going to be my DD and i drive about 60-70 miles a day. a big drop in my MPG is not what i am looking for. So i can plug the BD into my truck, take off the WOT rest which will help accel from 1-40, then you said 2 degree timing advance...what is that exactly? how will it effect daily drivability? and octane tunes.
Thanks again.
edit: just read Quartz's post. so my MPG will def be affected even under normal driving conditions? meanign when im not flooring it?
Daily driving will be just fine. Bully Dog claims you will get better gas mileage. They are probably correct. Your gas mileage will not go down if you drive it like normal. However, if you enjoy showing others the rear end of your truck, you will pay for it at the pump.
Install the program for regular gas, advance the timing 2 degrees, remove the WOT restriction and you are set. Your truck will have much more power, still use regular gasoline, and your mileage will not suffer unless you drive more aggressively.
BTW. Removal of the WOT restriction really helps if you pull a trailer.

well, in theory you should get slightly better gas mileage because you are burning less fuel with the 2 degree advance...slightly less, let me stress that. It burns leaner and hotter because less fuel is going through. As far as the tunes go on Bullydog I am pretty sure there is a performance tune and an economy tune, which you can also set to what fuel you want to use, performance with 93 octane of course for racing and not caring about mileage much and economy and 87 for daily driving to get the most possible miles / gallon...this would be a good time for a BD owner to chime in because I would hate to be giving out false info...I was never really too great at the whole open the book and study thing

BD doesn't have a performance and economy tune. It has a tune for regular gas and premium gas. It also has settings to adjust the timing in 2 degree increments and a separate setting to remove the WOT restriction. In addition it can change the idle speed, adjust the rev limiter, bump the top speed restriction up or down, and read and delete trouble codes when the check engine light comes on.

I can tell you first hand that the Bully Dog is worth it. It does improve MPG if you can keep your foot out of it. I can get about 2 MPG more on the premium tune. My truck is 4wd and I could tell a big difference with it, so with your truck being 2wd you will probably tell even a bigger difference in power.

I don't want/need more HP but I'd love to lose the WOT restriction. Anyone have one I can borrow for a few minutes?....lol
