Help! I have Squeaky Belts!!

man, today I just noticed my engine "squeaking" at idle. I popped the hood & its either comin from a belt on the left side (near battery) or from that left pulley. I gotta be honest, this drives me insane. had the same problem with my last vehicle, an infiniti qx4. on the qx4 it turned out to be the pulley on the ac condenser that was going out. no amount of pulley lube helped at all so I'm afraid to try that on the titan (made the infiniti better for an hr or two, then it just sounded worse).
any suggestions?

Re: Help! I have Squeaky Belts!!

wow guys thanks for all the suggestions! lol

anyways, i took it to the stealership today and had my (excellent) tech diagnose the problem. he's replacing my drive belt tensioner and a belt and that should stop the squeak. he says he's done it on a couple other titans. i'm so glad this truck's still under warranty!!

Re: Help! I have Squeaky Belts!!

if it happens again a quick fix so you dont have to listen to the squeek for a while is take a bar of soap and run it on the inside of the belt while the engine is running.

wouldn't that be bad for the belts/pulleys in the long run?

Re: Help! I have Squeaky Belts!!

I'd not recommend placing soap (held by your hands) on a moving belt. Just too dangerous of a manuever. Sorry, not worth any risk. Use belt dressing if you must, but the real solution is to fix the cause. Usually a worn belt or a tensioner, very common. Failed driven components happen all the time too.

Sorry we didn't get you an answer earlier Lurch, the cheap help just messed up on this on!

Stay safe!
