F-150 now rated to pull 11,000 pounds?

I saw a Ford F-150 truck commercial last night advertising that the F-150 is rated to pull 11,000 lbs. Did Ford make any modification lately to their F-150 that would boost their towing capacity or is Ford once again “re-adjusting” their figures so they can maintain the #1 status in half tons now that Toyota is coming out with a truck that blows them out of the water?

Ford is crack to get sales and will still probably go bankrupt and not honor warranties....

Re: F-150 now rated to pull 11,000 pounds?

I saw two new Ford commercials, both of them were bashing the new Chevy and other 1/2 tons, saying it would take two Chevy's to tow what one Ford Can, what a bunch of B.S.

I looked at the Fords before buying my Titan. The F150 has about the same towing as the Titan, UNLESS you get an axle package. BUT, this package can only be had on the base "work truck" model.

Re: F-150 now rated to pull 11,000 pounds?

I think the payload package that allows the 1/2 ton to tow 11,000 lbs is basicall the same as the F250 light duty that was offered on the 1997-2003 body style. Complete with odd ball 7 lug wheels.

Re: F-150 now rated to pull 11,000 pounds?

I would just LOVE to be at the dealership when the poor moron, who bought a new F-150 to pull his 10k LB trailer, drivies it thru the door of the dealership because he couldn't get it to haul it up a little hill!
That weak lil 5.4 (300 HP my arse!!!) couldn't pull 8500 LBS without a tailwind and a prayer. Sorry Ford, just upping the numbers on a inadequate truck isn't job #1.

Re: F-150 now rated to pull 11,000 pounds?

The tow rating isn't as much about the engine as it is about stiffer springs and bigger brakes to handle the extra weight.

That's why a 250 with the 5.4L has a higher rating than a 150 with the same engine.

Thats right, The F-250 with the 5.4 is rated for something like 15k. Now that I said that watch someone post the stats and make me look stupid

Re: F-150 now rated to pull 11,000 pounds?

i wonder if there's a fine print somewhere in the commercial? lol.

i have here a Motor Trend magazine dated May 2006 Vol. 58, No. 5.... and on the back of the magazine there's an Ad with a Fordy FX4 saying this:

" What's your mission? 300 horsepower Triton V8. 365 lb.-ft of torque. Plus, the power to tow up to 9,900 lbs. - F150's most pulling power ever. So no matter what you hook or hitch up to, consider it mission accomplished."

2006 Ford F150

and then, it proceeded with a fine print on the bottom that says:

FX4 shown; can tow 8,606 lbs.

Ahhh its refreshing to see a Titan owner who is informed.

Tow capacity is NOT about engine/tranny. Structural rigidity, suspension and yes even weight of the tow vehicle are factors. Get over the fact that while Nissan is a fast truck, it may not have the largest tow capacity.

But it will still tow more than an F150 :P

Re: F-150 now rated to pull 11,000 pounds?

Yeah...I saw that commercail on TV when I was at the GYM today. I was doing cardio and I wanted to scream THATS BS!!! But I just nodded my head in shame that a company that did nothing to upgrade the truck...changes the numbers to match a better breed....TITAN and TUNDRA. Well the Titan gets the better looking part and the Tundra looks like it came from Alabama where incest is rampant.....no dissing.
