First and foremost, check to make sure the diff is full! There hve been many delivered with low fluid levels. Other than that, just go by what's in your owners manual as far as change intervals....I go a little more often because I tow with mine. Any good synthetic 75/140W gear oil is fine.
You can;t over-change the fluid so....if you want to know what the magnet looks like, just change it. Should take you all of 20 minutes to do. I buy 3 QTS. You'll use a bit less than that but it takes more than 2. Good luck.

if it's a new truck why would he change it all ? Nissan started using SYN when the TSB came out.
Just follow the manual and make sure its full like what Hud said..
I changed mine early to make sure I didn't have problems, I also changed it to get any metal shavings out so they couldn't cause problems. I will also change mine again before my warranty goes out and if there is ANYTHING unusual I will bring it in to show them and get it in writing incase it fails right after warranty.
why are we changing our diff fluids as much as our oil? did I miss something?
Used to be that they'd make it 60k miles or more... in fact, on my 8.8" ford car rearends, the manual said "ford differentials are sealed for life. It is not necessary to change the fluid" I changed it anyway on my old cougar, it started leaking from the pinion seal from that point forward. I was then forced to top it off once a month and park in the street.

I understand that but this is a 07. I kno with the 04's it was a must. Probably even with early 05's. Just didnt see the point with a 07 and the new rear ends.

I changed mine for peice of mind, it cost me less than 50 bucks. I have the new and improved rear in my truck now, and I will still surely check it before my warranty runs out.
