Maybe I am doing something wrong and my dealership says the AC is working fine but I can not shut it off. Here is the problem, I turn on the Defroster in the morning and after about 15 minutes I do not need it anymore so I turn the RH knob to recirc, which should turn the defroster off, but it still blows cold air. The center knob AC light is not on. I drive 35 minutes to work (in the South) and the it still blows cold air. If I get to a traffic light and shut the truck off and restart it the truck will stop blowing cold air. I have tried turning the left knob (on-fan speed) all the way off and wait about 10 minutes but when I turn the knob back to fan speed the air blows cold. The only way I can stop the cold air after I use defrost is to turn the truck off and restart it. The dealership said that is the way it is designed.
Once the defrost is on for a certain period of time, the a/c compressor won't turn off until the truck is shut off. Don't know why they did this, but that is how it works.
The a/c compressor will run all the time while setting is on defrost. This is with all vehicles that I am aware of. Move selector to something other than defrost. if the light is still on, hit the center knob where the light is on and it will shut off. Sorry, I re-read your post and this will not work. I have a 04 and mine will not stay on as yours. Must be a problem.

Our trucks will keep the compressor on even after you take the knob off of defrost. If you keep it on defrost for a certain amount of time, I don't remember the time limit.
I believe after only 1-2 minutes it's on for the duration.

You have two choices in life:
You can stay single and be miserable,
or get married and wish you were dead.
Once you select any defrost mode, the compressor turns on. You have to select a non-defrost mode (compressor stays running), switch the ac compressor off so the light goes out (compressor stays running), turn the fan off (compressor shuts off), then when you turn the fan back on, the compressor will be off. Just don't switch to any defrost modes and it will stay off.
You are lucky if you don't drive off the road trying to do this every morning.
One of you geniuses please come up with a mod for this where the compressor button controls the compressor.

Your dealer is correct. Although Nissan must have a reason, I don't personally understand why the heII we'd be driving with the AC compressor on when it's not needed...especially in todays world where gas is $3+ a gallon. All Nissan vehicles do this.

After you turn the defroster on it will be on for the duration until you shut the truck off. It is a known issue.
The light will shut off, sure, but it is still running don't be fooled.
I belive they fixed this issue in 06 (most 06's should not have this issue ), hence the conflicting information in this post. Until then this was the case on ALL Nissan vehicles.
My dealship says tuff-**** on this issue with my 05.
I was thinking about selling the truck for an 06, but I can't afford it. It pisses me off that bad, as if having BT and 4x4 were not taking my gas enough they decided I have to run my compressor as well until the end of the drive! Great Now I have to pull over and turn my truck of and back on while towing, then if my windows cloud up I have to turn it back on then pull over to turn it back off etc........ Now I also have this horrible mold smell as well that the dealship says tuff**** about (from running AC too much). I try not to use my AC or defroster because It makes me want to puke.
Nissan does have a reason, it would cost them money to fix the logic in the conroll modual and recall them, so instead they just fixed it in 06. Other than that there is no reason, and 99% of everyone with a titan does not know about the issue because (if the light shuts off the AC/defroster is off). Most people would assume if the light goes out then the compressor is not running, I think if more people were aware of the problem and people started *****ing they might actualy come out with a fix...

I just cycle the defroster on high long enough to defrost the window. Usually it doesn't take a minute, so when I put it back on vent the compressor isn't locked on.
I bought a container of Fog-Ex (made by the same company as Rain-Ex) from my local auto parts store. I apply it once every two months or so and never need to use the defrost. I'd give this a try before selling the truck
actually this morning i tried something, i turned on the defrost for my usual distance, then turned teh left hand knob all the way off for like 30 seconds, turned it to vent and viola, no a/c compressor, everyone try just to make sure im not crazy....
