No, they dont. I wouldnt even consider it recommended. Some prefer to weld it, but it works just the same with clamps

Re: Is the magnaflow catback just a bolt on?

I just managed to find some magnaflow installation instructions online and they say it's not a bolt on. That you have to cut off the stock system and then use the clamps to secure the magnaflow. Or are these instructions just old and changes have been made to the kit?

Re: Is the magnaflow catback just a bolt on?

You do have to cut part of the old exhaust system. I just took mine to a shop and had it welded on for $50. I prefer welded connections over clamped connections personally.

Re: Is the magnaflow catback just a bolt on?

In order to install the Magnaflow cat-back system, you must cut the stock exhaust between the cats and the stock muffler. A reciprocating saw will make it easy. I used my angle grinder to cut through the stock pipe.

Anyway, it's an easy install. The clamps that are in the kit work very well.

Re: Is the magnaflow catback just a bolt on?

I have a Dremel, a Hacksaw and a Jigsaw. I'm guessing the hacksaw would work the best?

Is there a really a benefit to the magnaflow kit vs just replacing the muffer and having a shop weld the connections? Seems like it would be alot cheaper to just replace the muffer?

Re: Is the magnaflow catback just a bolt on?

I replaced the muffler only. cost me under $100 total.

The cat back system is believed to produce better power numbers than the muffler alone, but it loses low end power and costs a lot more. Not really worth it, especially when they want over $400 for them. the muffler alone is $65, so your paying $350 plus for new pipe on a truck that doesnt need it because its new.
