Ats Fender Flare Removal

Well I installed some ATS Fender flares about 2 months ago and am having some issues with them separating from the truck. I called the manufacture and they are sending out another tape kit free of charge. I know a few of you had the same issue and I was wondering if there was a easy way to remove the old 3M tape from the flare. I tried to remove a section at one point before I installed them and it was a real bear!! Took about an hour to get 12" off, cleaned and prepped for new tape.

Re: Ats Fender Flare Removal

Use Goof Off.
Seriously...I had no idea how well that stuff works on adhesive!
Test a small part on the back side of the flare just to make sure it's not going to damage the plastic or paint.
I used it when I debadged my truck so I could put PSYCHLONE on the doors, and it worked GREAT - didn't damage the paint and got the seriously sticky adhesive from the back of the original emblem lettering right off without a problem.

Re: Ats Fender Flare Removal

Yep. I have a big bottle of that ready to go. The trick is getting the tape off down to the sticky goo left behind

Re: Ats Fender Flare Removal

At one time, I bought a Sierra that someone had installed the 6inch wide stainless steel decoration along the length of the whole truck. It took me 2 days and 3 bottles of goo-gone to get those damn things off. Worth it in the end, though. Trick is to spray the spooge on the tape and let it sit for a minute or two. The tape gets gooey and rolls off with your finger.
Cheers, Lee S.
