getting a non tow package 2wd, what do i do?

so im looking at a 2007 king cab 4x2, basic SE, all it has is the captain seats. 0 miles, brand new for 22,000 out the door. now i want the big tow package, for the gear ratio, cause i want the extra go. especially since i want to run 35;s with the prg mid travel.
with or without the tow gears, i think i would want to re gear it with 35's to get all i can out of it if gears were available.
so do i settle for the non tow, because if i want tow package im looking at a couple grand more cause of the packages that they find with the truck w/ a tow package. they say the only ave a few at this price because of the way its set up. Im not cheap, but isnt 22 k out the door after tax and all the other bs good in CA.? i cant figure out what i want, because if i cant get aftermarket gears in the future, ill be stuck with non tow gears, and 35's,
BUT if i get my hands on a third member with stock nissan big tow gears, cant i put those in? or is that not possible? Im basically delaying going to the dealership to sign papers, due to this delema, help me

Re: getting a non tow package 2wd, what do i do?

There are plenty of guys with the non BT and have lifts with those size tires. The Titan is fast no matter what gear is in it. You might get a little more take off but dont count on noticing it to much. At that price I would go for the non BT. Just put exhaust an CAI on and that will easily make up the difference.

Re: getting a non tow package 2wd, what do i do?

Sounds like a good deal although if I were running 35s I'd want the BT/OR gears at a minimum...

Your truck will lose all its balls off the line between the combination of heavier rotational mass and what is effectively numerically lowering gearing...

You could always wait for aftermarket gears to come out before you buy...ha ha.

If it's not the truck you really want,is it really worth it at any price?

Re: getting a non tow package 2wd, what do i do?

get the tow package, or you will regret it... never settle, remember its your money, get what you really want... i had both BT and non-BT i have teh BT now and would never go back, the big mirrors are great for towing, the tranny temp gauge keeps you informed, and the lower gears are priceless.... no to mention the bigger battery.....

Re: getting a non tow package 2wd, what do i do?

well this is the way i look at it, yes i do want the gears, and i will for sure try to swing a deal on a diffrent truck, but the problem is i cant get JUST the tow package on this truck, without a bunch of other options, like rockford and power pedals and seats, and a bunch of stuff i dont need, or want to pay for. feel my pain? if i have to live with it for alittle while, i guess i will, because with 35's there has to be alittle power loss, and i wont want to compromise that even with the BT if there are after market gears ever out. if i can get a deal on another truck i like , i will take it. they have like 3 trucks for 19,980. and they said 22 otd, i just dont want to pass up a good deal. im asure ill get carried away with PRG, so im trying to save a few bucks on the truck. so i dont want to stress on gears, if either way im going to replace BT , or no BT. im trying to act like i know what i want, but im still confused. damn titans

I have 35's and Non-BigTow. My truck is faster than my buddies 5.7 Chevy thats stock height with the same mods. Shoulda seen his reaction when i smoked him by two truck lengths before I got to 60. Needless to say all he has to say is well I didnt buy an IMPORT. I just laugh and point out his rust and say my trucks faster...and i dont have "speed holes"

Don't forget to remind him that your "import"is made in the good ol' USA,his "domestic" is probably built in Mexico or Canada

thats a good deal, i say go for it. the gears dont make much difference at all, and you will save some by getting better gas mileage with the higher gears on the highway

I did...he said the profits still go to them..which is kinda true. But i still counter it with....mine beat yours, mines worth more, mine will last longer.

Funny how they all find excuses when you beat them.

Agreed, maybe the profits do go to them, but who gets the profits?
I am a Nissan shareholder I receive profits from an Import company.
Profits from GM don't go back to the US,they go to the shareholders.
Nissan and GM pay taxes like anyone else.
More real world is how many Americans are employed as the direct result of this truck being built in the US as compared to being built abroad.
Yes GM's numbers kill Nissans due to the high volume, but at least they are employing Americans to build these!
If he really wants to talk about profits, tell him to race you for $100,otherwise tell the smarta$$ to shut the F up
Sorry to get this thread so far off track

Re: getting a non tow package 2wd, what do i do?

Nissan is really annoying about the gear ratios. You can't get the lower ratio by itself... well, ok, the tow package has it fairly cheap... but you can't get the tow package by itself either, you have to get about $2k of extra options - even if you factory order.

With the amount of torque that engine has, I suspect you'll still be happy with 35's.
