Pulling in 4wd

Is it bad to use the front toe hooks and pull in reverse while in 4wd? i heard this can mess up your 4wd, but i've done it from time to time. Just wondering if anyone could help clear this up. thanks

Re: Pulling in 4wd

You are correct. It is a VERY bad thing. The splines in the front diff are not designed for stress in that direction. The towhooks are meant for your truck to be pulled, not for your truck to be doing the pulling.

Re: Pulling in 4wd

I've pulled in both 2WD and 4WD in reverse....too many times to count. It caused no problems.

Re: Pulling in 4wd

Ive only pulled out vehicles going forward. If you can get away with it and cause no permanent damage then roll the dice if you feel lucky :-)

Re: Pulling in 4wd

Make sure you are still within the drive train warranty before pulling in reverse as it tends to break front diffs.
