Huge difference in 87 and 93?

So I put 87 gas in my truck, and usually get a little over 300 miles to the tank. Last fill up I put 93 in, and when I filled up again today I had gone 346 miles with almost a quarter of a tank left. I was driving the same as I always do. Is there really a difference in using 87, and 93?

As expensive as as premium is even if you did get better mileage with it, it still wouldnt be cheaper!

With all the money you made from those floor mats, I'm sure you can afford premium

Re: Huge difference in 87 and 93?

You guys all deserve to be hit lol At a few cents more a gallon it didn't break me to use 93, shoot me for asking if anyone else saw a difference. I'm not like einstesin in the other thread thinking it added 50hp or anything.

Re: Huge difference in 87 and 93?

If you got more mileage after the 2 degree timing advance something is wrong...you should be smoking tires around every turn.....save your money the ecu is tuned for 87...putting something higher in their is not gonna make it run better, unless somehow you got an infinity ecu put in your truck by mistake..then you would be tuned for 91 octane...lol

Re: Huge difference in 87 and 93?

I think the difference is about 6. But could someone else just check my math quick. I'm a little tired today.....

yes I believe you are right! I had to get out the calculator to figure it out but after 3 times it came out correct! Don't forget that the other difference is about $.20 per gallon.

Another factor that could account for better mileage is maybe she got a better batch of gas which resulted in better mileage. Next tank may tank.

Winter fuel mix vs. summer fuel mix? Who knows... Just enjoy the truck and cruising in it. Worry about the fuel when the light comes on.

Re: Huge difference in 87 and 93?

Mythbusters just did a thing on getting better MPG while drafting - staying behind someone on the hwy. The closer you were the better your MPG became. Something like 50 ft back of a semi trailer was giving the truck like 20% better. I would attribute something like this to better MPG to tank all of the sudden then gas octane.
