Unhappy Bad Fuel Pump Or What?????

This has happened twice in the last two weeks, Hit passing gear and the engine stumbles and can't get any RPMs. Let off the gas and it runs fine, every time you hit passing gear it stumbles. Next day it runs perfect. Took it to dealer last week, no codes thrown. Then it did it again last night, today it runs great. I did a search and found similar problems but no real answer.

Re: Bad Fuel Pump Or What?????

I'd check the free things first.
Make sure your exhaust is clamped and bolted up properly so theres no leaks.
Then, make sure your intake is setup properly. Ensure your filter is on there good, your tube is tightened down and there are no leaks on that side.

Failing those things, I'd take it to your dealership and have 'em hook it up to their diagnostics machine and figure out the problem.

It's always best to start with the free things, then work up to having to purchase something (including service)

A bad fuel pump will not throw an OBD2 code.

Re: Bad Fuel Pump Or What?????

Fuel filters are cheap and easy to replace. You shouldn't have to replace yours yet, but who knows the quality of fuel you have had, or the amount of sand your 7-year old son put into the tank when you weren't looking.

Re: Bad Fuel Pump Or What?????

My truck would run great then after 3 hrs of driving it would start to buck and have no power at all . It would start bucking at 3000 rpm then it would get to the point that I could not start from from a dead stop. Took to the dealer no codes and of coarse they could not duplicate the problem. Remenber this only happened when I drove for 3+ hours. Three weeks later.
Went on a camping trip, on the way home started bucking, drove right to the dealership still pulling the camper, 5 minutes before they closed, I was pissed, Got a tech to go for a ride he could not believe how bad she was running. I limped home, returned to dealership the next day. They mounted a pressure gage to monitor the fuel pump, drove the truck for a few hrs then problem started.Turns out the fuel pump would pressure after the long drives. Replace pump, good as new.
Hope this helps
