Tirerack's shipping charge.

I was charged $105 for 4 tires and wonder if it's a typical amount. The total cost is still cheaper than most of the local dealers' but the saving (tax) turns out to be not as much as I'd hoped for. It cost $30 more because they have to be shipped from a farther warehouse where they have them in stock. I didn't mind to wait but the $75 rebate requires "in stock" supply. Only a few years back I was charged only $30+ for 4 tires, granted they were sport car tires and much lighter. This is not a complaint, just checking

Re: Tirerack's shipping charge.

Yep very common practice from tirerack! I've convienced many of my customers that after all the charges they "rack" up it's either the same or a little more than dealing with tire rack. The best part if u got a problem down the road with the tires you can easily drive down to the shop and get it taken care of instead of calling, gettign a shipping back #, shipping, waiting and then if you're lucky getting a new tire a few days later..by the way what kind of tire's did u order?

Screw online buying, support your local businesses. The day will come, and I believe it's sooner rather than later, that all this internet buying will bite everyone in the @ss.
All the made in China garbage will haunt us too.

Re: Tirerack's shipping charge.

Try Discountiredirect.com - they often have free shipping deals in the summer. They also are known to meet or beat any cometitive pricing. I have had good luck purchasing tires from them when the tirre rack is out of stock or does not have what I want at a reasonablely distanced warehouse. Just an alternative to think about.

It already has - The local discount tire guy wanted double what discount tire direct was asking at the time for my BFG KO's - and that was after telling me he did not stock them - and I watched him call discount tire direct in front of me (Yes - I know the number and watched him punch it into his phone. He then quotes me a price with a 2 week wait - cash up front of course. Nice profit if I would have let him "earn" it. Let the buyer beware - it is the old wild wild west out there in retail!

Re: Tirerack's shipping charge.

royr, I hear you. You should have called him on it. He was an @ss.

The local store here will match internet prices if asked, but his initial price to me was perfectly acceptable so I bought them. I recently had a flat and drove in and fixed (patched, not plugged) for free in 30 minutes. It does pay to have a relationship with a local store.

Clint - Very cool! I would love a local place that would do that. Service is so important. If that existed where I live I would not hesitate to give them all my tire business.

I ordered the Bridgestone Alenza which many local dealer don't have in stock. The Revo seem to have better ratings but I don't like the skinny look like someone posted here before. I don't need new tires right a way but I bought them for the rebate (the stock Goodyear SR A suck anyway) and I have to be sure I buy them from a "participate dealer" with "in stock" supply.

I bought tires from Tirerack before had no problem. I was just a little surprised at the shipping charge. I plan to have Costco install them (they don't carry the Alenza). Their charge is reasonable with the free rotation/balance and flat fix (or something like that, I forgot).
