Looks like 2009 will be Nissan's desiel year. I read that they will be offering a desiel version of the Altima in 2009. The motor will be a motor used by Renault.
If this happens to the Titan, might have to take a look at upgrading in 2010.

Uh Oh! Hopefully we won't be plagued with the same issues Ford had with International. I'm sure we all know about the 6.0L engine issues.... Last I checked, they are still going round and round with the lawsuit!
Renault makes awsome diesels, how come they don't just build one in house instead of outsourcing to a manufacturer with known reliability issues???

I don't think it's the Navistar powerplant that is the problem with the Fords. It's the FoMoCo engine management systems.
Surely Nissan could do a better job. Look at the differences between a Nissan 5speed automatic and a FoMoCo 5speed auto.

All indications are that Ford will be dumping the Navistar diesels it's used in its Super Duty pickups almost forever in favor of an in-house-developed diesel sometime around the end of the decade. Apparently undaunted by the quality issues that Ford has repeatedly experienced with the Navistar engines, Nissan appears ready to step into the breach and pick up the supply for the Titan pickup.
Since it appears that Nissan won't be developing a heavy duty version of the Titan, it's not clear at this point if it will use the current 6.4L V-8 that Ford uses or the smaller engine that Navistar had developed for the light-duty Fords. Most likely it will be the latter engine, and it may be available for 2009. Nissan, as expected, won't comment on future products -- except when they do (they previously announced a diesel Maxima for 2010).

UPDATE: Mike Levine at Pickuptruck.com spoke with Nissan spokesperson John Schilling who told him, "We haven't announced anything about a diesel engine for the Titan. This news is speculation at this point, but we are continuing to study this technology for potential future use. The only vehicle we've said that will have a diesel engine is the Maxima in 2010."

Wouldn't you think SAND in the cooling system left over from the casting process would be a navistar problem? Navistar has most likely fixed it by now, but still, it shows their build process is less than great.

from what i've heard from my dad was that the ford computer management system wasn't working well with the navistar engine. navistar wants ford to fix the problem ford told navistar to go **** themselves...
that's the story i heard, and i'm sticking with it.
the firehouse was looking at a new ambulance, and one of the sales pitches was "there's only a few of these chassis left, you guys better move"
yeah, hold on ace, let me get the check book out... salesmen.. bwahaha
The Navistar deal kinda sucks.... Nissan has been building exceptional small diesels (4 cyl.) for years for overseas markets with tremendous success. Nissan off-road enthusiasts in Australia swear by them. Don't get me wrong, I would be happy to own a Navistar powered Titan, but I believe Nissan could do a better job themselves........

Unfortunately, Renault is in house...

Yeah I don't know if it's quite *CONFIRMED* yet, in fact Nissan updated the pickuptruck.com article today:

Hopefully Nissan goes through with it this time they are going to need this to compete, GM is has already announced thier coming out with a version of the Duramax for their half tons.
