Exclamation Emergency, Need Help LED Tail Lights

Hi Guys,

I have a problem, I would post this in the tow section but I need the visibility in this thread.

I installed Altezza Gen 1 LED tail lights about 6 weeks ago, they have been just fine. I have not towed my car hauler since installing the LED tail lights. I have a car show at 4AM I need to go to tomorrow morning.

Here is the problem, I hooked the trailer up to the truck and I have no driving lights on the trailer. All of the lights on the truck work fine, but the trailer has no running lights. The trailer has loading lights that are working, the brake lights and turn signals are working, but no running lights.

I hooked my brothers Dodge Durango up to my trailer and all of the lights work just fine. The only thing that I have changed in my truck are the LED tail lights.

Any one seen this problem and know what it might be? Is there an easy fix?

How about you fuse situation?
I don't know if the Titan has seperate fuses, like my Ranger did.

Re: Emergency, Need Help LED Tail Lights

Yeah,

I will have to do that, but I dont have time to do it tonight I have to be up again in 5 hours to tow the car to the show. I was hoping that someone would have a quick fix that they knew about.

Re: Emergency, Need Help LED Tail Lights

You know, my truck has had this problem too..I just realized it..

Last time I towed my camper, the running lights on the camper did not work...Everything else worked though, except the running lights. I tried it on the Jeep, and it worked fine. Anyone know of a TSB on this, because I'm betting that there is a problem here...I have the stock tails though..I'm betting a bad ground on the factory hitch wires.

Re: Emergency, Need Help LED Tail Lights

I doubt the LED tails are your problem, it could be the harness, check all the connectors and wiring to make sure your wires are all hot, minus the ground. I have LED's, and wired LED bar to my trailer light harness wires with no problems, even while towing...

Isn't there a TSB on the factory trailer harness?

Re: Emergency, Need Help LED Tail Lights

TSB for 04 and 05 only. The 06 and newer should not have this problem. this problem was address in 06 by adding another turn relay.

Re: Emergency, Need Help LED Tail Lights

The TSB does apply to some '06's including mine!! Just bring it in and they will swap it out....just in casse you didnt know there is also another set of fuses under the hood. Have you ever used this wiring adapter before to tow? I remember immediately after I bought my truck I tried to use my old adapter from my Ford and it didnt work something about the center pin having a different job?!

Angry Re: Emergency, Need Help LED Tail Lights

Hi Guys,

Well I pulled out the tail lights today and replaced the OEM bulbs in the sockets. Backed the truck up to the trailer and all is well, the trailer running lights work just fine with the factory lights. As soon as I plug the LED tail lights back in, the 10 amp fuse (#37) blows (thanks scr38) once the trailer is hooked up to the truck.

So I am not sure what to do now. I love the look of the tail lights, but I need all of the running lights on the trailer to work when towing.

The LED lights are the issue. Everything works just fine when factory stock. When the truck is not connected to the trailer, I dont have any issues with the LED tail lights, they work just fine, but once the trailer is plugged in, the fuse blows (#37). If I replace the fuse with a new one it just blows again. When I put a new fuse and and put the tail lights back to stock then plug in the trailer everything works just fine. BIG BUMMER!!!!!!!!

Re: Emergency, Need Help LED Tail Lights

Sounded like a fuse issue to me. Do thoes LED's draw more power than the standard lights?

Re: Emergency, Need Help LED Tail Lights

I dont know what they draw. But they are not compatable with the big tow package and any extra load placed on the factory electrical system. I also dont want to increase the size of the fuse because I dont know what gauge wire is connected to that circuit. I am worried that I would have wire melt down due to amperage draw. Also If its not just an issue of power draw, I would be worried about damage to the LED lights with an increase in fuse size.
