Next thing I hear is a *Honk*... then I look up and a mercury mountaineer is swerving hard to the left in my rearview mirror. I had been turned for at least a few seconds, and was going in a straight line for about 100 feet before I hear this honking.

So, I'm thinking "Ok, someone I know?" Not like I know everyone here, but Wichita is only about 300,000 people. So I look over into this small SUV and see a fairly attractive, young female. Big mistake, I guess, to make eye contact with a road rager. She just lays on the horn, and we get to another stoplight and I'm mouthing "Who are you?!" and she's yelling something through her closed window at me. then the light turns green, I start going and she starts going, then she floors it...all the while flipping me off. I'm thinking "whoever that was, I guess they weren't too happy with me." so, rather than worry about this for the next few hours of "who could that of been?" I motioning at this young woman to roll down the window.

This is where it gets fun. "You just cut me off you &*(*%&#!" "oh, that's what this is all about. Thought you knew me or something!" she's trying to pay attention to the road in front of her and yell at me the whole time, I'm yelling "sorry if I cut you off!" and she's still mouthing off the explicatives and telling me "you &*#(%# with trucks think you just own the road..." and she's shaking like a leaf and trying to avoid eye contact, so there was something obviously very wrong here... she's pointing and trying to grab her sunglasses and trying to drive at the same time. And I'm saying "calm down. Have a good day." then I speed up a bit (traffic behind me) then she speeds up a bit... still with the window down and yelling even more stuff like "i'll have my husband kick your %*$ you *&%&#" so I roll up the window.

Couldn't speed up, nowhere to turn off, too much traffic to slow down too much. So I'm just going along and she swerves in front of me, slams on the brakes and comes to an almost complete stop in a 45 mph 4 lane road. so...what else to say now but "Crazy *****!". I'm a CCW holder, and had a 9mm XD in my console, but didn't even think about touching that unless a bunch of ninjas jumped out of her SUV. So, we're going about 10 mph and she slams on the brakes again, then speeds up to 10mph or so..brakes it again, traffic is going around us in the left lane and people are starting to pile up behind me.

That's when I realized that my truck is bigger than hers, so I hopped the curb and went through an insurance company's parking lot and through an alley before finding a side street. Don't know whether she tried to follow me or not. Didn't get the tag number, didn't call the police becuase I really never felt threatened (I'm 6'1" and 250lbs, she was like 5'8" and maybe 100lbs), just a bit surprised.... especially because I'm 99% certain I didn't cut anyone off...but what does that matter anyhow? She was nuts.

I've been known to flip off a few folks in my time because they're inconsiderate while driving. but, I rarely honk... and I've never done anything like swerve in front of them and slam on the brakes. Wonder what was so wrong in her life that she felt like she had to do that? Maybe this is what that buckcherry song was describing.
Aww C'mon, Ya just call er' an F'n "C" word and they tend to just internally self destruct. I'd have laughed her off then and paid the "C" no mind. Nobody has the nerve to slam on their brakes in from of me in my truck...nobody.

Like a CumDumpster? lol.

Correction, people driving large trucks SUV's don't "think" we own the road. We "DO". I admit I forced some guy into the carpool lane the other day, but he would not lay off me and was affecting my driving. I generaly don't do this, but I hope he learned his lesson. If you mess with the bull you get the horns. But I don't do stuff like this just because someone makes a driving mistake, stuff does jsut happen, like having to cut someon eoff on accident or on purpose, no big deal, unless I have to lock my brakes, then they get the horn, but if they think they are going to get away with turning their high beams on at me, and intentionaly not allowing me to let them pass, REPEADITLY then they had better have a bigger truck than I do...

but now I am searching for an airhorn, it's simpler, annoying and just better than anything else for road ragers.

Re: Road Rage - It's not just young men anymore...

One of my Buds has got the worst luck when it comes to road rage! One time while driving his family home from a night out to dinner, he accidently cut somebody off. Apperently they were in his blind spot and it just happened?
Well the offended person started honking and swerving side to side trying to piss my friend off. My buddy having his 2 little girls in the backseat is trying to keep his cool when all of a sudden...clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk!!
The idiot behind him is throwing BATTERIES at his new PT Cruiser!! holy crap, so what does he do? Slams on the brakes. gets out, walks back to the car and reaches in, grabs the guy and punches him square in the face!!
Well of course he goes to jail for BATTERY he ends up getting 40 hours of comminity service and manditory anger management classes!!

Another great day in his life. Hes driving home from work on an extremely busy and over crowded road. Some guy and his wife are trying to get over into his lane in front of him. Well my friend said he slowed down (they were doing like 10mph) to let them over, well he waited and waited, apperently the guy wasnt paying attention so my friend says, the hell with him and speeds up. As soon as he passes the guy he gets a barrage of @#$h0($#$%^&&@
and my buddy responds F#%$^U D#$k. and he drives on, whatever right?
NO.. this jacka$$ gets out of his truck at the next light with a bat!
My buddy sees him in the rearview and jumps out of his truck, throws off his company t-shirt and RUNS FULL BLAST at the guy!! from what he told me, he did some kind flying karate kick right to the guys stomach!! They hit the ground and my boy just starts wailing on him! meanwhile the guy on the ground is screamin' please stop, my wife and kid is in the car! and my buddy says "you should have thought about that before you got outta your truck a$shole!" meanwhile an ambulance driving buy on the other side of the median stops and turns on it sirens!! my freind hops up and gets back in his truck, just as he peelin' outta there the other guy throws the bat and just dings the corner of his cab!
My friend has bad luck but, I damn sure want him at my back in a brawl.

Re: Road Rage - It's not just young men anymore...

Saw a guy cut somebody off in traffic, then I saw they guy who got cut off motion to the other guy to roll his window down - the next thing I see is the guy who got cut off throw a hot big gulp size cup of coffee right on the guys face.....

That came to a fistfight in the street....all in Austin in rush hour traffic on 35!

I have had 10x the number of road rage altercations since I started driving the Titan, I get flipped off on a weekly basis. I think because it's this big honkin' RED truck they see coming, but fast enough to be able to drive in traffic like a car (switch lanes, accelerate, etc) I think a lot of people see this big truck and they think "slow" so they tend to take advantage of that, not knowing that there are few stock cars out there that are faster in my daily commute....

Re: Road Rage - It's not just young men anymore...

lol... I've noticed I don't get near the amount of disrespect when I drive my rusted out tiny 1986 Nissan truck. Seems like everyone thinks you've got nothing to lose by killing them when you're driving such a cheap vehicle. ;-)

Used to get a lot of folks revving their engines and stuff when I had an '04 mustang GT. But, that was all friendly.

Nobody cuts off my Titan, however. It seems like folks just give me more room when I'm driving it.

And, now that I'm thinking about it... I've been wanting a 4 door Titan since I got the KingCab, and this chick was definitely in the wrong... and the cops probably would have said "ya, her fault... her insurance will cover 100%" if I would have just plowed right into her little SUV at 45 mph.

then again, there was definitely something wrong with this woman...so, it's good that I never have to see her again. Hell, it was like 10:30am...and she was wearing shorts and a multicolor top so she probably wasn't on her way to work on a Wednesday morning. So, odds are she's unemployed or her daddy or husband is paying for everything... and that may be why she felt like she had to 'control' someone and 'punish' someone...because her life is so far out of her control that she has manifested control of others lives as control of her own.

Happens to chicks a lot, unfortunately. The free-willed ones have to take the money from their husbands/fathers because they didn't have the will power to go to college right after high school and they've got their parents saying "hey, have a good time while you're young! and we've got all this money we saved for you...and we love you so we're not going to do what's right for you and say 'get a job, get out of our house, you're an adult'.., and now they can't make what they feel like they're worth...but it totally ruins their sense of freedom and locus of control. If you think back on all the girls you've dated that had rich parents or trust funds, do you remember any of them being second-date material?

I find a HUUUUGE difference in someone who accidently cuts you off because they didn't see you, and someone who just cuts you off because they're an A-hole and know damn well what they're doing.

No doubt. The few times in life i've accidentally cut someone off and they honked at me or something, I'd always roll my window down enough and wave 'sorry' or something.

A little gesture can go a long ways toward cooling someone down (of course, some people - like the one mentioned in the original poster's story) are just crazy.

I never mind when someone cuts me off or does something really stupid next to me in traffic if they just give an apologetic wave. Some people don't care at all though, and that's when I feel myself get a bit irritated.

However, these days I let things go as much as possible. When you have kids in the car you can't be jumping out on the side of the road getting into fist fights and such.

Re: Road Rage - It's not just young men anymore...

I was coming home from work and was on the loop around Tyler, its a 6 lane 2 way road with stoplights, it sucks. Woman in a van is in the far left lane and shoots in front of me (im the center) all the way to the right lane. I honk my horn I'm kinda pissed, and I get up beside her, and she is actually looking at me mouthing "Im sorry".

She is in a van, kids in the car, trying to fight her way home through traffic. The fact that she said that, actually calmed my temper. I motioned for her to roll down her window and told her to just be careful. She said thank you and we both went on.

sometimes, its not deliberate ,but they freak out and forget, it is possible to miss your turn and get where your going.
