Well there are different kinds of interfaces. One that directly pluggs into your head unit and ones that go through the radio waves to your antenna. Directly you cant toggle thru your songs from your head unit. Antenna wise you toggle your songs threw the i pod. Directly has better sound quality.
The factory iPod interface let you plug the iPod in and can have limited control of your iPod from the steering wheel control (if equiped) or the CD control on the HU. It use the Sat. radio harness so if you have OEM Sat. radio you can forget about it.
You would think that it would be obvious, but unfortunatley someone like myself who is clearly far less intelligent then you, found themeselves unsure if the interface allowed complete control of all the iPod functions through the radio head unit or simply the ability to cycle through the recorded songs.
I thank you for including the link to Apples website. I am sure that as soon as someone teaches me how to operate this mouse I fill that to be a great resource in my quest for knowledge.
A quote from the ancient American philospher Mattew Broderick
"Don't think twice. It's understanding that makes it possible for people like us to tolerate a person like yourself."

The iPod interface can be used WITH or WITHOUT the satellite radio installed. The kits are slightly different depending on whether you have the sat radio or not.
The only restriction is that the iPod can not be plugged in when you use the sat radio.

Well, you could've worded your question differently. You were asking what the Ipod interface is, not how it operates. It's understandable that others would have pointed you directly to Apple's website, because it wasn't clear that you already knew what an Ipod is.
Most of the interfaces I've heard even for aftermarket radios have had poor control of the Ipod. Part of the problem is that the built-in interface to the Ipod is highly intuitive because of the touch wheel. Take that away and what do you have? Crap! :-D
Yes, you could have worded your question differently. You did not ask "how does the iPod interface work," you asked "what does the iPod interface do?" Well the answer to that *is* in fact obvious, it is right in the name, it interfaces with the iPod. I misunderstood your question, because of that. As amazing as it sounds, there are in fact people that don't know what an iPod is. I didn't want to assume anything here. After all, if you want to throw out quotes, Albert Einstein said, "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." I've been on the internet since before the world wide web existed, and I can most certainly vouch for the validity of that statement, particularly on the internet. So, sorry for the misunderstanding.
But getting back to the topic, I agree with timid1. Most interfaces are garbage. You are better off getting a 1/8" to 1/8" stereo cable, plugging it in to the aux plug, and using the controls on the iPod, rather then using the stereo controls. The only exception being if you just put it in shuffle mode and never want to skip around to specific songs. I had a Pioneer system in one of my cars and I thought their iPod interface would be cool. I think I used it a total of 2 times before I ripped it back out. It might have been ok with a touchscreen, but not with a standard head unit.
OK..I'm pretty clueless on this too. I just got an '07 Titan, and there's a cable in the glove box that plugs into my iPod. Unfortunately, when I do this, I don't get any sound. I tried switching to the AUX input, but nothing. IS there something else I need to do to gt sound from the iPod? Is the AUX input correct? Oh, and I did verify the iPod was playing and the volume was turned up.
Ummm...OK...what's so funny? Pardon my ignorance, but am I missing something? Is my question not legit? I have a cable coming out of my glovebox that connects to my iPod, and I want to know how to make it work. Why is that so funny?

He wasn't laughing at you. He quoted the previous post which asked "Are you Al Gore?" (directed at another user).
Your question would be better placed within its OWN thread, because you weren't the original poster. I'd title it "Stock HU w/ Ipod Connection Problems" and ask your question there.
