4X4 clunk sound when turning..

I was palying in some mud today, and while trying to turn to pass thru the mud again, in 4x4 , I heard a hard clunk noise. This just happened the first time i tried to turn. But after that I never heard the noise again, even while turning. It was trying to turn in a tight spot, I dont know if that has something to do with it.

any ideas?

thanks

Where you in 4x4 lo or high? Is this your first 4x4? Were you turning around in the mud or concrete? 4x4's make all kinds of noises when put in gear did you just activate it? When shifting into lo you will almost always hear a clunk.

It was in 4lo, I had activated it before I passed thru the mud(the 4lo light was on, not blinking). I was turning around in dirt, mud and gravel. It was while I was turning the truck.

It just did it once.

The only other 4x4 that I have owned was a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

thanks

Hmmmmmm It sounds like the lo didnt kick in right away and maybe kicked in after you went thru the mud hole. I could be wrong though.

Your Jeep had full-time 4WD probably. Your Titans part-time system, when in 4WD..be it HI or LO, locks the front wheels to the back so turning can sometimes turn up some different noises which is normal. Just don't do it on solid ground or you'll stress the tires and 4X4 system needlessly.

Re: 4X4 clunk sound when turning..

thanks, yeah might be some of those sounds, because after that I didnt have any other sounds or problems. And I was there playing in the mud for around half hour.

I know about not using 4x4 on dry or solid ground.

Thanks for the help.
