Should I Upgrade to Roof Mount Sat Ant?

I had dealer install XM in my new O7 Titan last week. They used the Sigma antenna by the rearview mirror. I am a little disappointed in the frequency of signal drops when driving through wooded areas on the way to work. (Especially when trees are on the south side of the truck). I understand XM signal comes from pretty low on the horizon- so I understand how the trees will block the signal.

My question is - does anyone have experience with the roof mount antennas and do they work better? I like the SIGMA and the fact that it's virtually invisible. If I could get great signal improvements by going with a roof mount- I might. But if the improvement is only marginal or non-existant, I'll stick with the SIGMA. Anyone have experience here?

I have Sirius and ran the antenna up through the sunroof and mounted it about 6 inches back from the windshield on the roof. I have never had any complaints about the signal and even found that it works in some parking garages.

It hasn't moved in over 2 years and even survived car washes.

i am not sure if you had an aftermarket xm installed but i did and i used the magnet one that came with the kit an put it on the roof and i get great reception. BUT without using the fm modulator the sound coming through the radio sucked. we may need a little more info on what you got and we might be able to figure it out

I added the OEM XM module, along with an aftermarket mini antenna mounted on the roof. Mine is run out of the 3rd brake light. I only loose signal in tunnels and parking garages.

Thanks guys- it's the OEM XM Module mated to the factory 6-disc changer. Might have to pick up a mag mount antenna and give it a try. Especially given PT's experience.

I have OEM XM and a Terk mini magnetic roof mount and get good reception.
