2wd's with factory rear cats??

Am I the only one? I thought the 4x4's came with 4 cats and the 2wd's came with 2 cats and 2 resonaters?
My '06 2wd has all 4 cats in place. Could it be the big tow package?
Just curious about the other 2wd's out there.

thanks.

As far as I know Catalytic converters are required by law in most states. I have cats on my 2WD.

I have a 2wd with BT package and have 2 cats and two resonators. You sure the rear sets are cats?

blavis, on a 4x4 the first sets of cats are built into the headers, than the second sets is down stream from that, right before the exhaust system. On a 4x2 the second sets of cats is replaced by a set of resonators.

Re: 2wd's with factory rear cats??

Might be a dumb question but why would 4X4's have 4 cats and a 4X2 have 2? Aside from a slightly different drivetrain, the engine and exhaust have no reason to differ.

Nope, not a dumb question. I've searched and searched and still have'nt
found any definite reasoning why this is. Some say the added weight of the transfer case,or maybe out 4 wheeling in rual areas out of the city would require the extra cats. IDK. Im still trying to figure out why my 2WD has the 2ND set of cats
