Why do the side airbags require the sun/moon roof?
??? Why is it every truck I've tested that has a side airbag option requires me to get the powered sun/moonroof? I've tried those vehicles and the interior height of the cab is too short - I sit with my head resting against the ceiling.
I'm 6'3" which is a little above the national height average for men - oh, ok, several inches above what Wikipedia reports (5' 10.x inches for the US).
I've adjust the seats every which way I can find and can't find a position that works (or at least works safely while driving).
Re: Why do the side airbags require the sun/moon roof?
Really? This puzzles me, as I have the loaded LE, with sunroof, DVD console, side curtain airbags, and I have TONS of room above me. I am also 6'-3" tall, and this truck is the roomiest I've ever sat in. Are you looking at a truck with the electrically adjustable seat? The front and rear of the seat bottom go up or down and you can tilt it to any angle you wish. The back also reclines to provide additional headroom. That may be your way to go. If that's what you're looking at, I hate to say it, but it seems it may be a case of operator error.
Re: Why do the side airbags require the sun/moon roof?
I'm 6'4" and have no problem finding a seat position that works for me, and I have side curtain air bags and moonroof.

Well, it should have power seat/s, and maybe if you lower the seat, you might fit........

Re: Why do the side airbags require the sun/moon roof?
I am unable to get the seats to lower far enough and if I lower the seatback too much the center post between the front and rear seats blocks my side view too much.
I found if I slouch in the seat I don't have problems.
Re: Why do the side airbags require the sun/moon roof?
I'm 6'4" (and 34" inseam). I would like the seat to go down more. Not because my head is near the roof (plenty of space there), but because I feel I'm looking through the tinted band at the top of the windscreen when I sit upright.
Perhaps one day I'll have the money to have a shop lower the seat; for now I have installed the Infinity center console (leather) lid, and lean on that with the seat cranked back.

Re: Why do the side airbags require the sun/moon roof?
I'm 5'5" and I have no problems with the sunroof
My issue is the speedometer, I can't see the top of the needle from 70mph through 90mph because of the steering wheel, if I change the angle on the wheel up another click it' feels weired, If I go down with the seat I can't see out the side.... so I just crouch a little when driving on the highway....
Aghhh the joy's of being small

Re: Why do the side airbags require the sun/moon roof?
I think it all depends on your proportions. I am 6'3" but a larger percentage of my height is in my torso (need X-tall shirts and a 37-38" sleeve but only have a 32" inseam). I have always had to look through the little black strip at the top of vehicles and can never see stop lights without ducking my head. I avoid sunroofs like the plague as my head always hits the lower roof.
Re: Why do the side airbags require the sun/moon roof?
I have a 2005 LE with side airbags and no factory sunroof- I actually had them install an aftermarket sunroof- So sideairbags without a sunroof can be done- at least on the earlier years

Re: Why do the side airbags require the sun/moon roof?
Nissan's website does not allow you to add side airbags without the rest of the items in the new model year.
I agree completely... that's one thing the Tundra has over the titan... safety comes standard (even on bench front seats). Extra protection (side airbags) on the Titan costs you $10,000 and requires that you lose the front bench. It's ridiculous. It wouldn't have costed Nissan much and is a good selling point to improve safety...more and more the crew cab truck is becoming an all purpose family vehicle as well as work truck.
