New 08 Titan

Hello everyone. Yes, I'm a newbie. Just picked up my 08 Titan SE 4WD LWB on Saturday. I have been researching this truck and the new Tundra for a few months. I got a lot of standard features on this truck that were options on the Tundra. Toyota would not come off the sticker. I'm glad it worked out this way because the Titan is a better looking truck. This is my first step into the "foreign" market. I hope it's not a mistake.

Welcome to TT!!
great choice with the titan, i wouldn't get the first new model tundra with all the first year issues and all. i argee with you that the titan is a much better looking truck then the tundra, and comes with more standard features.

if you ever have any questions on your new ride post them on here, there are plenty of knowledgeable people here. have fun with the new truck!

O, and post some pics when ya get a chance

Welcome to TT and congrats on the new Titan. I think you will be happy with your decision as I have for the last two years.

I appreciate that. Anyone got any info on the gas mileage for the 08's yet?

Re: New 08 Titan

I am sure you will be happy. I just traded in my 2005 for a 2008. I think it is one of the best trucks out there.

According to my trip computer I am averaging 11.2 MPG. Although I have a heavy foot and large tires on it.

I will be towing my boat with the 2008 for the first time this weekend. I am afraid what the MPG will be.

you already have enough break-in miles to tow something? if you do, it should tow w/ ease. heck, with that lift, you may not see your boat back there, depending on the size of the boat.

Steve,
Is there a suggested break in miles before towing? I have about 880 on the truck now.

I know the truck will tow it with ease, it is the gas consumption that will kill me!

I think you're supposed to get past that initial 1200 miles before towing. Then during your first tow(s) of 500 miles, the book says to keep it slow, under 50 I think. Just take it easy and give that rear diff some time to seat the gears a little more deeply under load.

1200 is what my dealer told me. I don't plan on doing much towing myself.

My sticker said 12/17 mpg. My sales person said this year they are using a new way of calculating gas milages. My Fiance was looking at Versa's and the '07's showed better milage than the '08's even though they have the same engine. That has his explination.

You have not made a mistake by any means. This is my second and I couldn't be happier. I am now getting just over 14mpg with mine. Smoke was what I wanted, but they couldn't find any built like I wanted. I got the Timberline instead. Get your miles in and enjoy.
