2008 Easygate Tailgate

Has anyone looked at moding an 40-07 to add this feature... it would really be a great add to my truck. I'm just not sure if it could be done.

If you mean that the tailgate opens slowly my 07 has it, as to others.

Re: 2008 Easygate Tailgate

All 2005 and newer models have this feature. You can add this to your truck

it can be purchased here

I'm not so sure about that. My 07 doesn't have that. It goes up like a normal tailgate, but down slowly. Hmmmmm

Re: 2008 Easygate Tailgate

I assume hes talking about tailgate damping?? If so all 05 and newer have it. Tailgate damping cushions on the way down and assists on the way up.

My tailgate is so light that I can lift it with two fingers, try that with a undamped tailgate it wont work unless your really strong lol

My bad...sorry to jump the gun I guess it does go up really easy compared to my neighbors Z71.

Oh yeah, well I can do it with one finger!!! LOL

I have become so used to the Titan's gate, that I've many times opened other gates on friend's trucks, only to let them go slamming down---OOOPS!!! Then you have the satisfaction of bragging about the Titan's tailgate assist!! Bwaaaahaaaahaaaha

Been there. Done that! It's easy to forget about this sweet feature when you're not thinking..... I thought my Dad was gonna have a baby when I did it to his Toyo!

Any easy way to swap '05+ hardware to an '04 to get the tailgate damping?

We compared trucks w/ and w/o at the Jersey meet. Doesn't look like an easy swap. Would require some hacking on the bed, along with some other modifications. The torsion assist is the way to go for 04 models.

Re: 2008 Easygate Tailgate

My chebbie has the easy lift option but it is no where near that of the titans or the tundras. I had to take it to the dealer and verify it was on because it doesnt help that much. Or maybe it does and the tailgate is made outof 3/4 in steel.

Re: 2008 Easygate Tailgate

It's funny how much I take that feature for granted... Just the other day I opened a buddie's tailgate and it just felt awful... the heavy 'clunk' as it comes down and then having to put down everything in your hand just to put the thing up. When I was buying my truck I was about to take an 04 but when I saw the gate assist and the auto rear window I had to have an 05.... I'm glad I did.

Re: 2008 Easygate Tailgate

After looking at the 08 carefully, I'm not convinced that the assist isnt in the tailgate itself and a trade to the newer tailgate would do it.
