question before i take the titan in for axle seal.

About 2 months ago I noticed my right side rear axle seal leaking. I didn't have time to take it in so I have been keeping an eye on it and it really hasn't gotten any worse than the pic. I called today and made an apponitent for tomorrow to have it taken care of. Well today I was putting my stock tires and rims back on and took off my airbags and saw that its leaking out of the vent (or lack there of) now. It wasn't like this when I last looked at it probably 2 weeks ago. Is there any other problem I should be aware of? The rear end has been fine with no weird noises or anything. This is on my 06 with 15,500 miles on it.

It looks like you caught in the early stages. If your dealer is a good one, they will do the right kind of repair that is needed.

Re: question before i take the titan in for axle seal.

Well i'm basically asking if you think it should be a whole rear end replacement or just the seal? I have had the seal on my 04 done at 55,000 miles and its now on 85,000 miles with no problems at all with the original read diff cover.

Re: question before i take the titan in for axle seal.

I have mine in the shop right now to have the R/R seal fixed. A few months ago I had the L/R fixed. I just happened to have it in for an oil change and diff fluid change they noticed the leak and asked if I wanted it done. It should just be the seal but I never noticed mine leaking at the vent portion only the seal.

Re: question before i take the titan in for axle seal.

The dealerships are all different, and all unpredictable. It's hard to say what they'll decide to do. This is the first I've seen of one leaking from the vent.

Keep us updated.

Re: question before i take the titan in for axle seal.

Update......

Dealer says that the area around the breather is "Normal" so they cleaned it.

The area around the hub or whatever its called is "not leaking".

I said so what is the wet stuff around there. He said its not leaking, the 06 rear end don't have problems because they are redesigned. I then told him my 04 looked almost identical to this and it was replaced at this dealership. He said just keep an eye on it and don't worry cause its warrantied to 60,000 miles. This was a service manager that my buddy had delt with who was very helpful getting a paint problem solved too. I'm gonna stop by another dealer and see what they say about it.
