09 Titan Diesel?

Don't know how much of this rumor has been disgused, but every since hearing about somebody spotting a heavier version beingh tested in a post yesterday I thought I would search around and find what rumors exist.

http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/news...dieselago.html

In another article in this months Truck Trend magazine that I picked up today, they confirmed that it was reported in a trade paper in Japan that Nissan has signed a deal with Navistar(who makes Fords diesel) to produce a small diesel for an upcoming Titan 1/2 ton and are saying the new engine may presumably be a V6 turbodiesel. Trucktrend is saying that it is likely a 2010 release as is the new Altima diesel.

Just thought I would share

I have been around this block but if all you 08 owners will look at the info center control knob on the insturment panel. At the 2 o' clock position about a half inch up you WILL see a the universal glow plug symbol screening on the guage surface.

Re: 09 Titan Diesel?

Falling sales??? Jesus. Where are they losing sales? Come to my town and you will see Titans all over the freakin place. The Nissan dealership can't keep 'em in their lot they are selling so good. You will see used newer Chevy's, dodges, and a lot of 150s in used car lots around here.
I was in Vegas for about 4 months a few moths back, and there were more titans than any other truck except for the cummins dodges.

nice catch! i wonder if they use this instrument cluster in other countries too and that may be why it's there? then again the don't really do MPH anywhere else.. so who knows.

i think the diesel would definitely help the titan, especially with the ford and toyota rumors flying.

time will tell. staying tuned.

Re: 09 Titan Diesel?

Is anyone else concerned that it's a Navistar diesel? Ford can't get them right, I don't know that Nissan is going to have any better luck. I've been looking for a 3/4-1 ton diesel since 2005, but I can't bring myself to buy a ford, given all their problems, and the Dodge, while the Cummins is an amazing engine, is just such a crappy truck.

Hooligan, what do you mean by LTD? Long Travel Diesel? Thanks

I'd have no concerns about a Navistar (International) Diesel. We have 2 at work, and they are great engines, trouble free. Yes, totally different blocks than a Titan will see, but they have made millions of engines, try to not overly associate Navistar with being bad, just because of Ford's interaction with the application in their trucks. Many finger pointers between the 2, but I trust the new design would be a durable one. I'd expect same HP, much more TQ and especially better economy, the main advantage.

Long-Travel suspension on a titan with the diesel engine. would be a beast. i'm also wondering just how much bigger/better the rear axle will be. btw, we've got several hundred trucks with IH engines in them with WELL over 200,000 and some close to 300,000 and they see abuse. are they trouble-free. pretty much. stay on top of maintenence and they're built to last. its the tranny, clutch and rear axle issues that usually get hit first. the new trucks in the fleet are now CTD's with Mercedes Benz engine covers, LOL, but the IH's have been exceptional, so i can imagine anything the Titan gets is gonna be a good one!
