'09 redesign?

Seems most automakers redesign a vehicle every 5 years. '09 is the 5th year of the Titan in it's current configuration (not counting the relatively minor changes of the '08).

I was wondering if anyone had any insight to the future Titan? Any Nissan workers hearing rumors?

Re: '09 redesign?

From what I have read, Ford F150 will be redesigned for model year 2009. Nissan Titan will be redesigned for model year 2010.

I am not aware of any mandate that anything needs to be redesigned every 5 years. How long did they make the Taurus, Cavalier, Maxima, etc. in basically the same format...

Re: '09 redesign?

The time line most truck makers follow from what i have observed.
new model
4 years later refresh (to keep sales going)
5-6 years upgraded powertrain. (probibly diesel or better 5.6 for titan)
7 year would be classic model along with new model.

so if i had to guess i would say 2010-2011 for new model.

Re: '09 redesign?

i doubt they would do anything drastic to the body. maybe some new interior stuff and a few variations to the exterior style but still maintaining the "Titan" look, just as they have other truck/suv models.

Re: '09 redesign?

Yikes - sorry bbshot, I read your post wrong. You were just pointing out your observation about a redesign roughly every 5 years - I agree, that is what normally happens (but not in all cases).

Anyway, here is the published info that the F150 is being redesigned in 2009 from http://www.edmunds.com/ford/f150/2009/review.html
Preview
What We Know
The 2009 Ford F-150 will be a fully redesigned pickup designed to take on the latest from Dodge, GM, Nissan and Toyota. Key to the redesign will be a new engine with displacement in the 6.0-6.2-liter range and a six-speed automatic transmission. Expect between 360-390 horsepower and an equivalent level of torque. Body style configurations probably won't change much and various interior themes will be offered much like the current F-150. Judging by the test mules seen so far, the styling will be an evolution of the current model that retains a boxy silhouette. Look for this truck to make its first public appearance early next year with sales beginning later in 2008.

And I am having trouble finding it but here is the best I was able to dig up on the Titan redesign scheduled for 2010 from http://www.intellichoice.com/reports...7/Nissan/Titan
The Nissan Titan was introduced in 2004 and a redesign is expected in 2010.

This page also shows the scheduled redesign for the Titan in 2010:

Re: '09 redesign?

Wow they are going to put a 6.0-6.2-liter in the new F-150's?

Off the topic but in searching for 2009 Titan redesign, the 400Z caught my eye with the potential of a V8.

Re: '09 redesign?

According to those who work at one of the F-150 production plants the 09' F-150 will look much the same with a differenet front end. The interior will be more posh but the area most improved will be, as stated here, the drive train. HP approaching 400 with a 6-speed transmission. Possibly a diesel option too.

Re: '09 redesign?

I think its important for trucks especially to develop a history - of dependability, strength and value. Similiar to the F150 -- they dont change a lot and rely on reputation alone to sell trucks. I think if Nissan jumps in too fast with a redesign it will run into a new set of first year issues that are common with the first run of vehicles. Using the 2004 as a base, improving with each year until they perfect it (improved brakes,etc)...Once perfected they keep that going to build brand.

I heard of a 4.4 v8, 300Hp, 540lb torquer diesel option for the F150 was/might be coming for 2009. Supposedly the motor is based on the Land Rover 3.5 v8 diesel.

Re: '09 redesign?

I guess I'd be a little confused as to what Nissan would be trying to accomplish by offering a diesel-powered Titan. I mean, how many of these trucks do they really think they'd sell? I can see Ford and GM doing it with all their fleet and contract sales, but I just don't think Nissan would sell enough diesel Titans to justify the expense of offering it. I dunno, I could be wrong, since I thought the same way about the long bed models.

Awaiting the new F150, sounds like they are headed in the right direction. Some front end redesign too - their black and chrome grills with the horizontal bars look nice, but those honeycomb ones (on the XLT, etc.) look awful.

Re: '09 redesign?

Maybe they'll go the GM route and keep the same design for 15 years....

That would be a good thing, right? Makes it more difficult to make distinctions from year to year. Should hold the resale value better also.
