Heavy rains here in Jacksonville for the past several days have left some of our roads flooded this morning. The road was relatively fine aside from large puddles on the curbsides as I drove to the gym at 5:00am this morning. By the time I leave the gym at 6:30am, the same road on the way back was flooded, with water several inches above the roadside curbs and sidewalks and people were having trouble getting through. Small low to the ground sedans were stalling out and getting into trouble. My girlfriend drives a maxima, and she had to get the kids to daycare and get to work herself.
I called her and told her to take the kids to daycare via an alternate route, as she wouldn't be able to get through there. I get to work and am told that the very alternate route I told her to take is also underwater, and only taller SUV's and trucks were getting through. I call my girlfriend back, and she says "nevermind how I'm going to get the kids to the daycare, I can't even get out of the neighborhood, our street is underwater and so are the streets to the mainroads!". I told her I was on my way. *cue trumpet fanfare*
I drove back to the house, amazed at how deep the water was, people's entire front yards were underwater. It stopped pouring for a minute, and I pulled in, picked up her and the kids, and proceeded to make the rounds, dropping them off one by one at daycare and work.
We sit through a 45 minute long traffic jam to move 1/2 a mile only to get to the deep part and discover a police officer turning cars around. I'm bummed, but decide not to turn around until the cop actually tells me to. No way I'm going to turn around just because a bunch of other people are. I get up there, and ask the cop "are you turning everyone around?"
She looks my truck over, and says "you should be fine, just keep it slow" and then turns to the guy in the honda civic behind me and yells "you sir, turn around!"
SWEET. I drove on through, enjoying the fact that only bigger trucks with some ground clearance were plowing through this stuff, and got my family safely to work and daycare.
All cars were being turned around. Having a truck rules.

Ya that “knight in shining armor” thing always make you feel good.
Having the right tool for the job is a also a good feeling. Now that I’ve acquired a arsenal of tools for around the house and to work on automobiles its always a good feeling when you remember how you used to struggle with what was not exactly the proper tool and then when you do the same job with the correct tool its so much easier.
The Titan is the correct tool!

Agreed on the right tool.. This is my flood water geter througher.....
That thing looks like it could just rumble right off the edge of the grand canyon and cruise on down just fine.
I was surprised, dudes with trucks were going through the water, but slowly, but women in minivans were trying to haul butt through it, and the water was washing up over their hoods and stuff. Dumb!

Ha yea the ole beast will go almost wherever you take her.. And yea thats were most people screw up going through water at high speeds, especially females lol. They fly through and flood there sh*t with water.. Not to smart....
driving on washed out roads can be dangerous for any vehicle. It only takes a couple inches of water to wash your wheels out and send you down where you probabally don't want to be. We have some areas where I drive through that flood in heavy rain (I drive through them too) but it is still a dangerous thing to do.
