Re: Titan to get Diesel and a V6

Nah the only older Cummins I've ever messed with was the N14 and M11, and even then I was only setting valves on them and that stuff is easy. But yeah Cummins puts out some pretty great engines, I just don't like that new ISX and its DOHC crap, that thing is such a pita to just get the head off of it.

Re: Titan to get Diesel and a V6

it's funny you brought up the v-6 vs. the inline 4 and "mines bigger' senario... when i heard about a possible diesel in a v-6 i thought, ok.. but why a v-6 vs. inline 6.. then it went to an I-4 and i thought, nah, way too small, you'll never get power outta that thing... my stupid american brain!

i guess bigger doesn't always mean better!

Re: Titan to get Diesel and a V6

We were speaking of V-6 gas engines for the service industry. The 6 vs 4 diesels that I was speaking of were all in-line. Smaller displacement 4 banger with same trq rating as 6, and the 4 got better fuel economy. Its not really our fault that we have embedded with all these things, we just need to be more acceptable to change and more open to new ideas and technology. This includes nameplates and configurations of powertrains, etc...

Re: Titan to get Diesel and a V6

We have a 24v cummins sitting in the shop right now pushing around 800 to 900rwhp and 1200 on rwtq. You cant make that much power with the fords. Unless you have a ton of money. My bosses truck when its done will be around 1500rwhp and 2200rwtq. Thats out of a 12v cummins.

Re: Titan to get Diesel and a V6

That's great. But what are you backing it with? What shop is this? I love diesel performance.

that is fine and dandy but how is the reliability of the inline 4? It would have to work harder to put out equal numbers of the 6's.

there are 4 banger race motors that put out over 900hp but blow up real easy out there. Granted they are not diesels.

We're not talking about 900HP either. LOL A realistic is around 325-340 with a tq of 540-620. It's all in the turbo and fuel. Good design to keep exhaust temps down is crucial. 4's are just as reliable. You've got guys w/6's running in the 900 range(Cummins) and not a lot of reliability issues. At 325, you still got some room to mod.

I may be wrong but I believe that cummins only makes I-6s for all their size motors. No matter what you say unless the cylinders displacement is enlarged to increase the power then the boost needs to be increased to get the power needed. (Yes there are other ways to get more power from a smaller engine too.) The more power you want the more boost you need, eventually the boost will exceed the levels the engine can take... this is true with any engine of any size.

Re: Titan to get Diesel and a V6

Nah, Cummins was with the 4 bangers also, even had one tested for Dakota's before the buyout by Benz! But we were mainly talking about other makers, in particularly, Isuzu, who makes almost all of Hitachi's excavators engines. And Hitachi founder and Nissan founder were brothers.

Re: Titan to get Diesel and a V6

Yeah Cummins does make 4 cylinders, the 4BT mainly which is a stout engine. If you look a couple of posts back in this thread you will see the video I posted of that very same motor, in a Hummer, tugging against a powerstroke. So yeah its a reliable engine, and is a very common swap for alot of 4X4 rigs.

why is it that if you go to cummins website there is not mention of the 4BT?

Re: Titan to get Diesel and a V6

its an older motor, based off of the older 12v and 24v 5.9's IIRC, so they probably don't make it anymore. Now it seems like their smallest motor is the ISB which is a 6.7L. Either way they DID make the 4BT at one time.

You would be quite on point, sir. Those were tough little rattler's, weren't they?

On the other titan forum, they are saying "its official" about a Navistar V8 going in in 09. I'm not sure about that, cause my work sources(my inside loop of engineers) haven't said a WORD! If it is true, it still won't be a Heavy Duty. I do know that project is on hold, cause I keep hearing them whine about wasted time and such that they spent on the project.
