Titan to get Diesel and a V6

Has anyone else seen the article in the October Peterson's Offroad Magazine?

They reported that Automotive news was told by Nissan that the fullsize Titan pickup is looking at International diesel motors, and also a V6 as well.

I know this has been discussed time and time again here, but at least it is still in the works (for the diesel that it). No word on the what the V6 would be, but I'm guessing it would be the 4.0 that is in the Frontiers.

Heavy duty Titan with an internation diesel would be pretty sweet!

Re: Titan to get Diesel and a V6

Can't.....wait.....any......longer..... Did they happen to mention anything about a possible release date? I'm assuming it's going to be coming out when the 4.5L Duramax and Fords new V6 diesel come out. When it does, that's the day the Titan gets traded in...for the Nissan diesel of course.

Re: Titan to get Diesel and a V6

We keep hearing this, but still no real info. We need confirmation on manufacturer, size, HP and torque, and on sale dates. I guess we'll have to wait a little longer.

Re: Titan to get Diesel and a V6

well I have tried to get info on this subject from some old friends of mine at the plant but the ones truly in the know keep pretty tight lips so they will stay that way. From what I could get out of them the titan will be getting the diesel and v6 for the 09 or 10 model year. I am not sure if the v6 will be the exact same as the 4.0l in the fronty but it will be the same VQ platform. Now as for specs on the Diesel, while I was still working there I came across the proposals and the Motor spec'd to be used was a v6 international motor with 305hp and around 500 ftlb of torque, this was 2 years ago so I dont know if that has changed or not.

Last I heard Nissan was talking to Navistar, the manufactures of the Powerstroke in the Fords.

Yeah, I think Navistar has filed a lawsuit against Ford...or vis versa.

"truly in the know"--Consider me "kinda in the know"--haha. I work for a sister corporation. My latest info is the entire HD product line is on hold FOR NOW. The only diesel being introduced by Nissan in the near future will be an engine option on the Maxima. Sorry guys. The last engine they were considering for the Titan was from Navistar, but it was not the "power stroke" format at all. It was in-line 6, and the were having software integration problems. The declining sales of normal Titans prompted the decision to put HD's on hold. This saddened me as well!

Yes. It's a big uproar right now. It is Navistar that issued suit on Ford under the speculation that Ford was developing their own diesel. Ford countered with the MASSIVE warranty claims with out denying that they are researching their own product.

I can't think of a better way to boost sales than to increase the variety of models/drivetrains though. It's sure hard to be patient though.

Re: Titan to get Diesel and a V6

For those who don't already know Navistar=International its the parent company, and yes I too have heard the Heavy-duty project was on hold (although I have also heard a grumbling that this wasn't entirely true) but that the Diesel in the half-ton was still a go, since all major manufacturers plan on doing this by 2009, I find this easier to beleive since this would require very minimal tooling changes in the plant itself whereas the HD project would require several new separate assembly linses and a major retooling of the plant

Re: Titan to get Diesel and a V6

One other thing, not to hi-jack, but the entire diesel world is getting flipped on its lid according to a source that I CANNOT confirm. Again, so there is no confusion; this source is unconfirmed===the rumors are: Dodge lost their lifetime rights to Cummins when the introduced a non-Cummins diesel product, the Jeep Diesel. When that happened, Ford stepped in with their controlling part of Cummins and pressured the pull of the Cummins from Dodge. The source claimed that Cummins was going in the Ford??? He also stated that the Isuzu based diesel in the GM's was the reason that Nissan did not have that option(Isuzu's are TERREFIC diesel's-work with them every day and we would be lucky to get them in a Titan). Nissan was also skeptical about the isuzu name badge deterring sales-don't really know why cause I love 'em!!! BTW: if the Ford-Cummins thing is true, Dodge will have no worries because right now(and this is fact) Benz has a RV based diesel that is making 490HP and 1132ftlbs. of torque!!!!! The amazing thing is its only a 7.? L.

Re: Titan to get Diesel and a V6

I have never understood why they would put a V6 in a full size truck or why people want them. Nissan did it right, you want a full size truck you get a full size engine with it. Now a diesel in a half ton sounds good to me. I know GM's 4.5L V8 turbo diesel for their half tons is looking pretty good. Its was built from the ground up and is expected to put out more than 310 hp and 520 lb-ft according to truck trend.

Off topic here but still about engines, mercedes has a new engine that looks very good. Its a 1.8L turbocharged, direct injected gas engine and it uses both spark ignition and auto ignition. This thing puts out 240hp and 300lb-ft all while getting about 40 mpg. This thing is almost as powerful as the frontiers 4.0 L V6 and gets twice the mileage. Pretty amazing.
