Banks installed! couple questions

I purchased the exhaust from bigboy04 on Sunday. I didn't come fully prepared to transport it back (fully assembled), so he was nice enough to give me a bungee to secure the beast

I first took off the stock in no time and put it aside for the scrap metal guy then attempted to put the banks on. Everything seemed to go together very easily AT FIRST. Then I realized that the angle on the tailpipe was heading in would cause the tip to not come close to clearing the rear fender. I wd40'd the hell out of it and tried to twist it down to no avail. I then took it to a friend who has a torch and we gave it a quick heat and of course turned it no problem. Secondly, the middle hanger was about 6" from the crossbar where it was supposed to attach for some reason Everything was perfectly aligned with the exhaust so I guess this may be a small difference between the 04-07 and the 08s?? Anyways, we just fab'd up a bracket to span the 6" and now its sturdy enough for two guys to hang on with absolutely no give.

ANYWAYS, just psyched that it's on, and I LOVE the way it sounds

I'm looking for my camera so I can put up an exhaust sound clip

Odd that you'd have to heat it up to make it fit. My fitment was fine but I had to redo the hangers.

I highly recommend switching out the crush clamps for SS banded ones. The expansion and contraction means that it can be likely that a section will want to separate if not perfectly seated. Banding them guarantees a better fit.

Have fun.

Re: Banks installed! couple questions

I suspect the main center bracket is reversed; rather it is upside down this would change both the exit direction & the way the pipe hanger lines up.

Re: Banks installed! couple questions

Make sure Banks didn't make two different set ups as some companies do....one for 4X2 models and another for 4X4s. They may differ slightly. He may have had one while you need the other. Just a thought..I don't know if they do differ.

It is possible to connect the brass or plate bracket the wrong way, a few members have done this, “I almost did it myself since I only read the instructions post incident”, in so doing hangers will line up but tubing angle will be a bit pronounced vertically “stressed” & the exhaust exit will be off. Perhaps if you search some pictures indicate what I’m ineffectively trying to convey.

The only change I'm aware of reg. Banks is early like mine didn't have G. Banks stampped on the muffler.

no, there was not or is not a difference between the 4x2 and 4x4s... they did however include a heat shield to cover the exhaust piping close to the transfer case. that's the ONLY difference! the banks should have fit perfectly, however if it wasn't put together right the first time you'd definitely have issues.

yeah, its a plate that must be mounted in the correct direction or it throws everything off, making almost impossible to mount. i'd have to do some searching but someone posted pics of how it needs to be mounted so as one would not have to scratch their head wondering why it won't fit correctly.

I agree that you might have one of the brackets reversed, I did the same thing. There was a picture of it on this site somewhere, but I cant find it.

Re: Banks installed! couple questions

here's a picture of the bracket hangar... it must be installed in the correct direction or fitment will be WAY off.

Re: Banks installed! couple questions

Congrats on the new exhaust dirty jerz! Where you at in Jersey? I'm in Westville myself and I would love to hear that exhaust in person, plus I could always give you hand if you need help. I bought my Titan on Sat. and am trying to figure which mods to get and in what order. Exhaust is high on the list.

well thanks to THOSE that admitted to doing it wrong, lol, i went into the install knowing which direction to install it but regardless it still was a bit confusing. here's a better pic of that hangar... you can imagine from the photos how it would NOT align if mounted upside down or backwards. it would be ridiculously off!!!

Re: Banks installed! couple questions

That is the first hanger also, if I am not mistaken? that was installed JUST LIKE THAT (I searched for pictures) and the last hanger lined up perfectly, it was the middle hanger that was 6" BELOW where it needed to be. If I am wrong on which hanger that is please let me know and I will go fix it asap because then obviously I did it wrong hahahaha

I am in Basking Ridge in Somerset county. You are more than welcome to stop by and take a look. I am not in South Jersey often at all though
