Re: Titan in heavy now

They do OK. But like someone said. It's all in the tires.

Here is a pic from last year. I was out fishing with a friend all day and when we got back to the cabin my truck looked like this. Notice the box. It is completely filled with snow. It was a fun 3 hour drive home.

Re: Titan in heavy now

My Kumhos did exceptionally well last winter. Like another poster said you really hardly need four wheel drive, unless you're aiming for the big stuff. I just keep one sand tube in the back just in case I do get stuck and need to cut it open to get some traction. Haven't been close to that yet tho.

Are those the Road Venture AT tires?

I'm thinking about getting some. Are they noisey? Holding up well? etc. etc.

Re: Titan in heavy now

Def some impressive pics in here. I can't believe what you guys are pulling with the Ragged Trails, I compare driving in the snow with those tires to a near death experience. Maybe they were just really worn or something.

That being said, a little weight in the back makes a lot of difference. I usually run ~200 lbs. Use sand, so you can put it under the tires if you do get stuck.

This will be the first winter on Terras for me, so we'll see...

Re: Titan in heavy now

I went one winter with the rugged trails on and put that on my list of things to never do again. There are certain wet snows we get here that made those tires undrivable. I put the BFG A/Ts on the next winter and they were great, one of the better tires for snow IMO. As said above, the Blizzaks are awesome tires. My mom has them on her Lexus 330 and that thing is cruises through snow.

I'll third that.

I guess it's hard to keep eager new 4wd owning soccer moms @ home when it snows... I love watching them learn those life lessons, for example:

"look at how my suv gets up and goes in the snow!"

screeeeeeeeeeeeeetch SMACK. 5k of damage later.....

"what do you mean it doesn't help me stop better??"

then there is always at least one sport import guy trying to drive somewhere, probably as a dishwasher, student, IT consultant... who knows.

Re: Titan in heavy now

Not to hijack the thread, but while we're on the topic of inhospitable weather, what do you all carry around in the winter time for emergencies?? I carry:
a shovel, sand bags, salt bags in the bed
a blanket, extra gloves & hats, tow straps, rope, flashlight, knife, jumper cables basic tool kit in the cab in a container under the rear seat.
- I'm trying to get my new brother in law to hook me up with a few MREs to stash in the truck too.
