Re: 37 gallon gas tank?!?!?

BB for president!!! I'm jumping on the bandwagon.

Seriously though, I'm lucky to have a second, more efficient (25mpg) vehicle to drive, otherwise my truck would probably be gone. Who knows, if the trend continues, it still might be going bye bye.

I saw that article too, Its not how big your gas tank is, its how far you can go on a gallon of gas. The most I've spent to fill up so far was $68, just last week but it'll last me for two or three weeks.

Re: 37 gallon gas tank?!?!?

Also, regardless if my tank is 10 or 1000 gallons, it's still costing me the same amount for gas as the next guy, regardless if their tank is 2 or 200 gallons.

If you fill up your tank you fill up your tank. So it costs you $100 to fill up once.

OR

you from half tank twice, and it costs you $50 each time, it's still $100 no matter how you look at it, you've still purchased the same amount of gas.

Who cares how big the tank is, just means you might be inconvenienced more by having to stop for gas more often. Our trucks are going to get the same mileage whether it has a 5 or 50 galllon tank.

Re: 37 gallon gas tank?!?!?

What's that joke?

Man: The price of gas is going up again.

Woman: The price of gas doesn't affect me.

Man: Why not?

Woman: Because I only put $10 worth of gas in at a time. The price never changes.

Re: 37 gallon gas tank?!?!?

atleast I know if my 100lb wife gets an in accident while driving my 5600lb truck, she has better odds of surviving then if she's in a 1500lb Prius. That my brothers is more then worth the price of gas.

Interestingly enough, unfortunately my mother-in-law, who drives a 99 Corrolla just slid into the back of a pick up truck today. Fortunately, no one was injured and she didn't damage the truck as it had a hitch, but the hitch on the truck really did a number on the sheet metal of her car. It is still driveable, but it's incidents like that, which reminds people the difference between small cars and big trucks/SUV's.

A similar thing happened to me, when I was in my 05 KC Titan a couple of years ago - I was rear ended by a Acura TL - totalled the TL, but I drove away. My son and I didn't feel a thing. If it wasn't for the loud crash, we might not have even known we were hit.

I traded my KC for a Civic Hybrid when my commute went to almost 170 miles/day. During the 3 months I owned that car, I had 2 incidents where if I was in my Titan, there would have been no damage/issues.

Now that I am in a CC Titan, I do feel safer, not sure how much fact there is behind that, but I believe it.

Re: 37 gallon gas tank?!?!?

Just a reminder about gas prices...even though the nominal price of gas may be higher than in the past, inflation (and wages) have gone up as well. Considering real gas prices (adjusted for inflation), we actually have it fairly good. I know that it looks bad, but on the whole, its really largely not that much more expensive in relative terms than in the past. In the '70s during Carter's presidency, gas prices were much greater relatively than now...I wasn't born then, but anybody remember the shortages and lines?

However, I do agree that it can't hurt for automakers to look at more fuel efficient technologies (i.e. diesel). I really do think that for now diesel technology is the future and the only real viable technology right now if a person wants to save on their gas bill as well as the vehicle themselves. Diesel cars such as VW's TDI's are making averages of about 55+/- mpg and there are even reports of 70ish mpgs. Think about Europe...remember how they have outrageously high gas prices ($6 a gallon and so on)? They deal with that by producing very efficient diesels. I think that if manufacturers would expand diesel offerings, we could have our cake and eat it too. Like for example, if manufacturers were to put diesels in 1/2 ton trucks, we could have the power and torque that we so crave in our trucks while having pretty good gas mileage (perhaps even 25+) and also having a far easier time of maintenance and upkeep than gasoline engines or even those fancy electric engines.

But anyway, my two points are that we should remember that gas prices are not that high compared to historical standards adjusting for inflation (therefore don't freak out too much) and secondly, we should all (as a collective society hopefully...but I dunno bout that) try to pressure our automakers to look at the European model of diesel technology. I know a lot of y'all are big fans of diesels so I'm sure that's no problem here, but unfortunately, in society at large, much of the attention is focused on solutions that are either plain unviable or unnecessarily costly.
