Question Wiring daytime running lights

Can anyone offer advise on the wiring changes required to a 2005 Titan SE to make the lighting conform to Canadian vehicle requirements ? i.e. front lights must come on automatically at all times the vehicle is in operation.

Re: Wiring daytime running lights

Oooh, don't know if that's been done yet. If anyone knows how, it would be 'baseballfanz' he is pretty good with the electrical system on our trucks.

Re: Wiring daytime running lights

You could put a piece of electrical tape or a small rubber cap over the automatic on sensor and just leave you headlights set to auto

Not all trucks have the AUTO headlight function though, his probably doesn't.

Canadian vehicles "require" DRL's???? WOW. From previous vehicles i know it requires a new stalk/switch. As far as the bulbs i dont know which ones are or would be used. I would look into a LED conversion if i was attempting to mod to a DRL setup. The LEDS are legal and last alot longer. Since they will be on always during operation, there shouldnt be any sensors or additional wiring to worry about.

Re: Wiring daytime running lights

Adding daytime running lights shouldn't be a hard operation. Personally instead of trying to mess with the wiring of the truck, why don't you try a drl kit? Probably cheaper and easier.

Hey Bobo993, that makes me feel better. I just imported a 2006 TITAN and have to do the federal inspection. I was just going to install the DRL kit myself. Did you get the kit from Crappy Tire? Was it pretty straightfroward?

Any info on how to do it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Glen.

Re: Wiring daytime running lights

I dont think its a big deal if you dont have drl. Just switch on ur headlights when it gets dark. I actually disabled the drl on my moms 05 passat ever since i installed the hid kit. I wouldnt even worry about it.

Ya Bobo- was it very tricky? Sounds like it just took a little time. I want to know if I should attempt it myself, or spend the $150-200 to have Canadian Tire do it for me.

I don't mind doing the easy stuff, but if it's gonna take 5-8hrs, then forget it.

Can you please elaborate on how you did it? Thanks!!!

Re: Wiring daytime running lights

I wonder if you could just add a set of aftermarket fogs in the grill and wire them to come on when the truck is started. That way you'll have DRLs and don't have to try and screw with the trucks main wiring. Just a thought...I don't know the laws up there in Canada.

I think that would probably work. I think as long as you have some lights on, it should be fine. I'm going to bring that up when I get my truck inspected. We'll see what they have to say. The mechanics at Canadian Tire might not know though, some of them are still breastfeeding I think.
