My truck won't take gas

I was just at the gas station with an empty tank and couldn't fill it up. No, it wasn't the high prices.
I live in one of those states where we aren't allowed to pump our own gas. The attendent there tried to but it kept turning off as if it was full. So he held it on and it just shot gas back out.
So then it set it to fill very slowly and that worked but it was taking forever so I eventually just had him stop. He said it had alot of back pressure for some reason. So I managed to get about 1/4 of a tank and left.

I know it's empty as I haven't filled up for 3 weeks and have driven about 260 miles on that tank so it's due.

Why would it not take gas?

Re: My truck won't take gas

when the tanks get that low this seems to be a issue with the Titan.

Re: My truck won't take gas

There should be a vent line on it somewhere.....it must be pinched or clogged.

Re: My truck won't take gas

This is the first time it's happened to me, and I always let it go damn near empty and then fill up.
Is there a solution to this?

Re: My truck won't take gas

I hate to be the one to bring this up, but the only time this has ever happened to me (not on the Titan) someone had put a piece of receipt paper down the filler tube. It got caught at the mesh inside the filler tube but didn't completely cover it, so I could fill it VERY slowly, but it would just run back out if I tried to make it go faster. Have you an enemy somewhere that might do this? Worth checking out though.

Re: My truck won't take gas

I dont have a problem. I filled my tank when its really empty and on average about 22.5 gals. This could be the gas pump you were using

Re: My truck won't take gas

Did they try to let it slowly fill up and then when its at half tank go full out? And what's the deal in your state where you can't fill your own tank? Is that a law?!

It was filling so slowly it never got to half a tank.

And in my state, Oregon, there are no self service gas stations. All of them have people that pump your gas for you.
I have personally never done it myself and wouldn't even know how.

Re: My truck won't take gas

If that isn't he damnest thing. I've read from other people on this site that you could try rocking the truck back and forth to maybe 'burp' the tank.

New Jersey and Oregon are the only two states who do not allow self serve.
Regular today was $2.93 and they put it in for me.
