Looking at an '04 Titan, What to check for?

I am currently looking at trading my '03 Dodge Ram on a titan. Generally I am looking for an '05 or newer, BUT the only one that i like in my area happens to be an '04. (its an SE, completley loaded with all power options, factory offroad, heavy tow, factory spray bedline, utility bed package, Rockford stereo. Basically alll the options. OH, its a king cab not crew (which is important I HATE the crews,)

It has the balance of the 100,000 miles 8 year warranty. The truck was bought new from the dealer its being sold at now, and was re-traded on a new titan. They have all the service records, it was serviced at that dealer.

SO, it sounds like it could be promising. But I am new to Titans and just want to know what to watch out for or looking into when checking out the truck this weekend? I heard the differential problems, but that should be covered under the warranty.

Anything else? any recalls I should check for? Are the '04's Notoriously bad or should it be ok (provided I check the service records)??

The price is 19,900 for the truck obviously I would like them to take a couple grand off and I should make about 4 g's on my trade. SO maybe I could finance it for 13 or 14Kish.

ANY insight is appreciated.

I would stay away from an 04 unless it was dirt cheap, I mean like $15,000 if it originally listed out at $32,000. You can pick up a new 08 SE 4x4 for around $23,000 right now.

Where are you located? How many miles are on the truck? That price is too high IMO.

Make sure it has the "brake fix"...

btw, how can you "hate" the crew cab? All that extra space a bad thing??

I have an 04 that has not been back to the dealer for any problem.
The first thing to consider is the same as any vehicle: was it abused?

Re: Looking at an '04 Titan, What to check for?

wow. The price seemed a little high i was thinking they would probably go down to 17ish but It doesnt sound like its worth it?

Is it really true that you can get a 4x4 SE for 23,000 new? If thats the case I would definately go that route but I am seeing 06s and 07s used for over 25,000. I live in south western PA.

Re: Looking at an '04 Titan, What to check for?

Oh and I dont like the crew cab because I hate the disproportional look. If there was an 8foot bed available I would be all for it.

With a short bed, it looks too much like a chevy avalanche or the same way those s10 crew cabs look, (only bigger obviously). I now own a dodge ram QC which i feel is perfectly proportioned and the King Cab titan is very similar, but just doesnt have 4 reg doors

Anyone who thinks a Crew Cab Titan looks like an Avalanche needs
an eye exam.

Re: Looking at an '04 Titan, What to check for?

Im not trying to offend ANYONE but when the trucks cab is nearly as long as the bed its not proportioned properly. If i wanted an SUV with a bed I would get a Honda Ridgeline.

Now I KNOW that a the titan is more of a truck than the ridgeline, BUT the proportions aren't THAT far off. You may disagree but my opinion, (and physical dimensions) are what matter.

If you have a crew cab thats fine, but I will NEVER own one w.o. an 8ft bed.

The only reason I said that it was king cab is because alot of the used ones around are crew cabs (with color schemes and options i prefer) and thats why ended up looking at the 04. It wasnt to offend people

Re: Looking at an '04 Titan, What to check for?

nm I just looked at a few pics and It appears that the cab is actually LONGER than the bed. I need my truck for a truck, that means I need atleast a reg sized 6.5 foot bed.

That is the size of the king cab bed correct?

I put motocross bikes, quads, and sleds in it some times. (Tho I do have a 4x8 trailer I will be towing. but its very light)

Also, I forgot to add that the truck in question has 38,900 miles. A little more than I wanted (the trucks a little older than i wanted to) But like I said its the only one around that I like.

I just saw that new 08 KC SE 4x4 advertised at $22,990 last week, Chicago area dealer. The sticker on it was 29 something. That 23k is before TTL.
