Let me throw some gas on the fire here: Would you buy a Titan from, say, Dodge, if you knew Nissan had designed and built it? What about from Chevrolet? Both of them would probably leave the line alone, but Ford would demand cheaper everything, probably beginning with the driveline parts. But you'd be able to get 35 different interiors...
Dodge yes, Chevy maybe not, they gave me a financial bath on a '94 POS S-10 I bought new and had to get rid of it before it was 2-years old because it was one problem after another.
Can you say Dodge Dakota?

Yep, lookie there! A Mitsubishi Raider! It'll be rarer than the Titan. That's my point. You hardly see the Raiders or the Isuzu I-series, both rebadged and marketed as a stand alone brand. I wonder what their production/sales numbers are?? The Titan will never make it if Ghosn does this.

But then along comes Honda, and shazam! They have Isuzu build their "trucks" (and by trucks, I mean the Passport and yes the Ridgeline), then they stick their Honda badge on it and sell it for more money.
The Ridgeline isn't built by Isuzu,it's built by Honda in Ontario,Canada. The Passport was an Isuzu,though.....which hasn't been in production for several years.

Who cares if it's rare? You really think that will make that truck or the Raider worth anything? A 72 Chevy Monte Carlo with a factory manual 3 speed is rare. You know why? Because nobody wanted that crap in 72 and nobody wants it now either. Rare is not always a good thing.

This is rare, and worth 10 times the original MSRP in the condition it is in. If the Titans get killed, take care of them.
Protect the survivors.

Dude take a chill...Read the post...The reason the Raider and Isuzu will be rare is cause nobody wants them now or later... I don't want the next gen Titan going that way, either.

Well well. Maybe it was good I waited to buy. If this info is true I'm going to be very disapoointed in Nissan and in Ghosen. Then again this is the guy who saved this company so I guess he knows what hes doing.
Not sure I'm going to be happy driving a Chevy though.
The pick-up truck segment of the market for ALL companies will live or die on the rising price of fuel.
If gas keeps jumping like some of the predictions, sales of all pick-ups will drastically decline and the Titan won't be the only one to stop production.
You can bet the Tundra would be next, and Ford would be in deep doo-doo because of the decline of the F-150.
Lon, it all has to do with Renault.
Anyone who has studied the history of vehicle sales in the US knows the French have no clue how to market vehicles here. Renault has failed miserably three times. The last attempt is when they bought AMC. It wasn't long till Renault ran AMC into the ground. Only the Jeep escaped, and only because Chrysler bought the remains of AMC.
Renault owns 33% of Nissan, which by Japanese standards, gives them controlling interest. Renault spends next to ZERO on vehicle ads, and not just for the Titan, but for most Nissan vehicles. How many ads have you seen that mention, for example, that the King Cab has a 8 foot bed, or the Crew Cab has a 7 foot bed? I haven't seen ONE. Not on TV, nor in print.
Daimler-Chrysler...the cause of most of the problems facing the Titan inre to truck sales. Dodge overproduced Rams in 2005, then sent them to dealers, making them take them whether they wanted them or not. This caused Dodge dealers to stop ordering Rams. By midyear 2006, there were over 100,000 new unsold 2005 & 2006 Rams packing storage lots all over greater Detroit. The powers that be at Daimler-Chrysler even rented an unused fairground, and that was soon full. The crisis continued into 2007, and is still a major headache. Recently, Dodge shut down the Ram assembly lines for lack of orders.
So what did DC do? They sold (and are still selling) the Rams at give-away prices to get rid of them. 15 grand off Mega Cabs. 12 grand off Big Horn Editions. At one time, y'all coulda bought a new Ram Crew Cab WITH a Hemi for 15 grand. Not off sticker, that was the selling price!!
DC has used all sorts of sales tactics, too. Free Hemi Engine, Lifetime Warranty, yadda yadda yadda. All this grosser scheiss caused a price war among Ford-Dodge and GM.
What did Renault do to counter this? NOT ONE DAMN THING!
Even Toyota is now offering up to $7500.00 off sticker for their 5.7 Crew Cab. The Toyota dealers are offering another 3 to 5 grand off the price, selling them below "invoice" to get rid of them.
All pickup sales have fallen into the toilet, not just Titan's. Ford is down over 12% this year, and was down 25% last year.
How many F150 & Silverado/Sierra sales are actually being bought by individuals in today's market?
Ford and GM OWN the fleet market, prolly 50% of their sales are to those customers.
With Renault spending ZILCH on ads, and not offering any deals except on XE's, the BEST DAMN TRUCK ON THE MARKET is falling by the wayside!
btw: The members over at the Ford truck site I spend most of my time on now..are having a laugh fest over these Titan news stories.
Lon...you know me. I'm a self absorbed miserable old SOB that speaks my mind...and speak it I did on the Ford site, detailing problems I had with my ex-F150, and basically typing the same post I typed above. The flame wars began almost immediately. Even with the rep I have there (top 5% in rep points out of 430,000 + members), ppl are quick to make snide and nasty comments. Too bad for them...if 10% of the members there that recently bought a new F150 had test driven a Titan, they prolly would have bought one.
You can bet the Tundra would be next, and Ford would be in deep doo-doo because of the decline of the F-150.
Ford already is in deep scheiss, very deep scheiss. Did'ja know that Ford put up the entire company for collaterral in order to get loans to keep operating?
Recently Ford's new prez, Alan Mulally..a former bean counter at Boeing said that.."Ford was in a race against time."
Ford has been trying to sell Land Rover and Jaguar for over two years...so far...no takers. Both these companies haven't made Ford ONE cent of profit since Ford acquired them. Estimates of what Ford has spent on Jag alone run over 15 Billion Dollars. Jag sells about 1500 TOTAL cars a month in the US, the RED ink keeps on flowing.
Most of Ford's sales are down this year, and have been dropping since 2005. The stock has hit the toilet...last time I looked, it was $8.25 a share.
How is Ford going to repay that multi-billion dollar loan which comes due in two years?
Selling Jag and Land Rover won't help, they'll prolly have to give them away like Daimler-Benz did when they sold Chrysler to Cerberus.
Ford going bankrupt = a REAL possibility.
btw: Have you seen the spy photos of the "so called highly touted" 2009 F150 yet?
