Re: Ghosn hints at killing Nissan Titan

Like I said, as soon as I hear something, you will also. I have a little "inside scoop" so to speak. By the way, if the Titan is killed off, then you know all the guys on Dodge/Ford/GMC/Toyota boards will be talking about how "their trucks" killed it. Idiots.

When the 09 trucks hit the floor the Titan would be the oldest and least powerful truck on the market.
FWIW going by the numbers the Titan is already at the bottom with the F150 as far as power. Yet a funny thing happens when the truck is road tested. It trails only the 5.7L Tundra in empty and towing comparisons. Nissan does not need a major overhaul to the 5.6L to keep it competitive or put it back on top. In all other catagories the Titan is right up there still. The only truck I see blowing it out of the water with updated features is the 09 F150. That thing is pimped to the roof with doodads.

Once again. Using sales figures and comparing them to the Big 3 and Toyota is apples and oranges. Look at the numbers and do the math. Nissan USA is not a big company. They sold around 700,000 cars total last year. There are models that sell worse than the Titan (Frontier, Pathfinder, Xterra, Maxima.....) yet they soldier on. Honestly, Subaru just broke the 200,000 unit in year sales mark in the US a year or two ago. They would have killed for a 50-60K unit a year selling truck like the Titan. It is all about scale. Whoever told Nissan 100k units for Titan sales was possible must have had a good hit of something because that number would have made it just about their best selling vehicle in 2004. Sound realistic to you?? Sure doesn't to me. The Titan is far from making Nissan bleed money. If it was they wouldn't have even freshened it up and added the long wheelbase models. They would have milked it for 2 more years as it was and canned it. They invested more money into it to freshen it and add configurations. Hardly the move of a company dropping a vehicle a year later. FWIW Ghosn isn't Nissan USA. I really don't even think he gets the truck market at all and the Titan is Nissan USA's baby. We are the only market that has it. Nissan USA will be the deciding vote IMHO. Ghosn just signs off on it.

Yeah but all truck sales are down a lot. Gas prices, economy blah blah blah.

Re: Ghosn hints at killing Nissan Titan

Nissan has sold over 1 million vehicles per year in the years 04, 05, 06 ,and 07.
Hopefully they will in 08 as well.
I do hope the Titan doesnt go.
