Re: Ghosn hints at killing Nissan Titan

Well this is completely depressing, should it turn out to be true.

5 short years, you cannot even consider a respectable run. This kind of move probably will not turn me from a Nissan for future vehicles, but it certainly will apply a long dark black X on their otherwise reasonable record.
Let this be a lesson in how Corporations treat the throngs of followers that tout the values of their products. Don't look up boys, we about to get shat on.

Re: Ghosn hints at killing Nissan Titan

oh man this blows. I just went through this whole thread. I absolutely love my truck, this would serve as a major kick in the nuts considering I'll be looking to trade mine in by 09 on a new Titan.

Re: Ghosn hints at killing Nissan Titan

Goshen! What an idiot! How many folks are going to buy an 08 Titan knowing it may be cancelled before the warranty runs out. The value of our trucks will tank if this becomes fact. The value will be hurt just by this announcement. Maybe Ford should buy the Titan from Nissan and call it the F-200 and give it a diesel option. The F-150 would dissappear.

Re: Ghosn hints at killing Nissan Titan

I looked for these numbers on NissanNews.com. FWIW, I don't see the Titans' sales are that bad....
'04 YTD sales= 75643
'05 YTD sales=79666
'06 YTD sales=66617
'07 YTD sales=60961

This totals to 282,887 units sold since inception. Not too bad, ya think? These numbers could be 4x this if Nissan would advertise more. Do these figures really justify the axe or worse a pieced together Lego truck from two different parts bins??

Re: Ghosn hints at killing Nissan Titan

Compare them to the Tundra with 126,529 examples moved last year, the 901,463 Ford F-series trucks, the 705,980 Chevy Silverados, and the 400,543 Dodge Rams sold during the same period.

This comes from http://www.automobilemag.com/new_car...dra/index.html

It is a fairly low number of vehicles for such a capable truck. I agree. Nissan needs to change it's advertising methods and get the word out on this truck. It must not go down, fighting or not... That's just unacceptable.

Compared to what? The next truck with the lowest sales is the new Tundra, since the middle of Feb. they have sold nearly 200,000 trucks. If you compare the big 3 truck sales it only looks worse. If it were only the low sales #'s, the Titan may not be in such trouble, but the warranty claims are also eating into the profit margin if there is any.

Citroen only sold about 50,000 cars in the US between 1950 and 1973.
Long about 1970, their marketing department figured it out, and sales really took off. Today, they are sought after cult cars that can easily bring 10 times the original price and then some.

In 1971 and 1972, the Citroens were legislated out of the country in Washington DC based on pressure from lobbyists for the big 3 because the big 3 couldn't come close to the cars in design technology and construction cost management. Do you have any idea how many Citroen, Peugot and Renault cars are still on the roads in the US, despite what happened back in the 1970s?

Let me tell you. There are a lot, considering that there weren't that many sold. It tells you something about the types of people that bought them. I see a lot the same mindset in the people who bought the Titan.

Ghosn brought us the truck in the first place, I see a lot of things in the product line that are very French, (ie conservative and functional) and if it does get killed, it will only serve to elevate it's potential cult status rankings. These Titans are built better than any Citroen ever was, and they should last a long long time with reasonable care.

I have mine. There will be plenty to choose from in the next say, 30 years, even if production does dry up. Don't sweat the management, enjoy the ride.
It could be worse you know. We could only have the F-150 to buy.

Re: Ghosn hints at killing Nissan Titan

I have yet to find logical justification for a diesel engine in a 1/2 ton truck.

Re: Ghosn hints at killing Nissan Titan

It also might be a calculated move on his part to send a message to his suppliers. You would be surprised what this kind of news does. Suppliers would rather cut into margins a bit rather than have nothing at all. They may reach out more to salvage a business relationship and address certain quality control issues. Say a few things and see how everyone reacts, from customers, suppliers, dealers, etc. It is a game of poker, push in a heavy stack but do not go all in. See how much the Titan program is worth to their suppliers and see if they will call. This will allow Nissan to feel a real time pulse on the situation and understand which direction is in their best interest.

Re: Ghosn hints at killing Nissan Titan

All this getting upset over nothing....lol. It's all just rumor for cryin' out loud! The Titans not going anywhere....maybe changing a bit I'm sure. But getting back to what I said earlier about sales numbers....the Titan is the only truck sold here in North America ONLY. All the rest are sold worldwide. The sales numbers would HAVE to be lower for the Titan!
So relax people....lol.
