I really don't understand the confusion, sounds pretty clear to me.

Come on Nissan - we can only give so many rides in our truck!! You're going to have to unclench you death grip on the change jar and pony up for some commercial time on TV....

Something is causing the loss of sales. Titan sales for Jan 2008
were 29% less than Jan 2007...............29%
Let's try to figure it out Truck sales in general have declined so far this year. So which trucks will be hit the hardest? GM, Ford, and Dodge, who have been making trucks for decades? Toyota, whose truck really isn't that great, but at least they put a LITTLE effort into competing with the big 3 and actually brought something to the market that won't be laughed off of the road? Nope, I think it will be the Titan!
Here's the logic: People that actually use their trucks for working/towing/hauling/etc. will continue to buy from the big 3, like they've always done. People that could just as easily get by with a compact car but for some reason bought a Titan (we'll say 80% of Titan buyers) will stop buying them! Furthermore, with the state of our economy, we're seeing a lot of people losing their jobs. The first to go are usually the weak-minded, slow, intellectually inferior, and generally worthless people. These people represent the target market for the Titan. It worked quite well for awhile, in fact they almost sold 90,000 of these in one whole year! Wow!
Carlos Ghosn saved Nissan long before the Titan was a true product. It might be pushing it a bit to say Nissan would no longer exist in the US without him, but it's not much of a stretch.
He revived the Z, the very blood of Nissan. He was largely responsible for the XTerra. Carlos, unfortunately, probably doesn't care much for the Titan, but that's just my guess. Don't get me wrong, I love my Titan, but Carlos has a habit of predicting what the market wants, not what a few current owners want.

Don't be fooled Carlos had a hand in saving Nissan, but he will be it's end if he doesn't figure out how to sacriface a little profit for better build quality and stop screwing the North American Employees around....
By the way Carlos HAD nothing to do with the Xterra and very little to do with the Z. It was in the works before he showed his ugly head at Nissan..

Carlos Ghosn was intimately involved in the demise of the Titan.
He believes that Nissan's future is in vehicles that use less gas. There was a fairly good article in Business Week a few weeks ago.
He's been a very prudent business man...and has shown the ability to make good cars and make a profit...something many auto makers are struggling to do.
I think it is unfortunate that Nissan chose to cut corners in the titan. I can only dream of how are truck would have done if Nissan hadn't skimped on brakes and differentials...and had tighter QC on the 2004.
Because of brakes, diffs, and poor quality control...consumer reports burned the titan...bad. And many, many, people use CR to determine what cars they will and will not look at. Getting on the CR do not buy list...does not bode well.
I'm sorry to see the titan will have a short life, but it makes sense. The full size truck market is shrinking, Nissan got slammed on quality, and Toyota entered the market with a Truck that beats nissan at it's own game (biggest baddest 1/4 ton).
