Re: transmission knock at low tempature

How does a transmission knock? You're hearing something other than the transmission I believe.

Same question that popped into my mind as I read the thread title.

Re: transmission knock at low tempature

I hear trolls have a similar sound.

You really should let the truck warm up before you take off so you don't risk oil starvation due to excessively-thick oil. What weight oil do you have in your engine right now? You may want to try running Mobil 1 0w30 if these temps are common.

I would consider starting your truck and driving off at -4F/-20C without any warm-up to be abuse. Just don't do it.

Patient: It hurts when I bang my head against the wall. Do you have any advice?
Doctor: Don't bang you head against the wall.

Same applies here...first-poster.

Unless you're shifting from D to R while driving, there's nothing in the tranny that makes such a sound. You're hearing something else. If this is for real, have the dealer check it. Doesn't sound good, nor can I believe it's that bad and you haven't gone to the dealer yet!

Nobodys saying you aren't hearing something. But either you're not describing it right, or it's not the transmission. Let us know what they find.
