need a few of you guys to check bolt in leaf springs

hey all,

i have a major issue and need to know if the bolt head should go in a certain direction. it's sticking out vs. sticking in. see my pic below and let me know if yours is similar or goes the other way. I'm trying to gather which is "normal". obviously my big wheels and tires aren't regular.

thanks

I don't see anything sticking out like that, towards the wheel/tire on mine. I honestly don't even see on that could be that bolt if I take into consideration that yours in the pic might be in the wrong way. I guess I just can't get the perspective from that pic.

I cant even tell on my truck where the bolt you have would even go, although we do have wheels of different offsets and such. Heres what mine looks like looking from the cab toward the rear. Is that bolt part of your lift or something?

*edit*
unless its where the roller thingy is on the leaf springs. In which mine is inside as seen in picture #2 (at the end where the bottom leaf is attached to the top leaf.

I don't have any kind of bolt sticking any where near my tire. I would turn it around if I where you. I still don't know what that bolt is for.

It goes the other way. I have seen many while at PRG's house.

If those are Deavers, take that bolt out. It's not needed. If those aren't Deavers, then I dunno what it is.

Re: need a few of you guys to check bolt in leaf springs

hey guys. i'm sorry i should have marked it but i've updated the pic and circled the bolt in question.

i flipped the bolt around but the damage is done. i wish the tire shop happened to notice this sooner. now it seems to be a road hazard but the funny thing is i've been rolling like this for 18k miles! i bet it's a ticking time bomb.

That's incredible. If those are Deavers (which it looks like they are), then take the bolt out. Greg told me not to put it in there on mine, because they don't serve any purpose, and they will tear up your tires

they are the lower deavers leaf pack. is that what you're referring to or the entire leaf?

thanks for the info!

Speaks to the strengths of that tire though!

Yes. Greg said DON'T put those in because that exact thing would happen to your tire. If you want some extra comfort before you take them out, give Greg a call, but that's what he told me about the Deavers.

Thank God you caught that... I wouldn't even use it as a spare. You need to play the lotto or PM me some numbers.

Re: need a few of you guys to check bolt in leaf springs

If you are still considering taking the bolt out, you could also switch the leafs around. don't turn them around, rather switch sides with them, that way the bolts would face in. Just my .02... That sucks about your tire, I am sure they cost big $$$. You are pretty lucky it did not blow out at a bad time!!!
70mph + blow out = bad day
