what are you trying to do there, the cover for the radio just pulls off and you might get better access to the socket.

There are two small square holes just inside the socket about a half to an inch down on opposite sides. There is two plastic tabs that have to be pushed slightly outward while pulling on the metal part and the socket will come out without removing the radio finisher. The best tool for this is two small 90* picks pressing outward while pulling on the socket.Nissan does make a special tool for this but you can make do without it. The picks do the pushing and the pulling at the same time.
That is to much finesse for me, I probably would have used a sawzall.
We think alike, I can picture it!!!!!!

Thanks for the info. That will definitely help. I noticed what you are talking about but wasnt sure how to release it.
I am trying to release that socket so I can have it behind the dash for my GPS power source, so all the wires are hidden.

I used the 2nd row socket when I wanted a hidden socket for my belkin ipod adapter. I did remove the aux jack in the dash so the connection would be hidden.

Yikes!
Don't do that. Go to Wal-Mart, in the automotive section next to the trailer parts. They have an add-on external cigarette lighter assembly for $5. Get a couple of self-tap screws, or use something already there, and affix it up under the dash. It comes with connectors that will tap into existing wiring. You can either whip out the multi-tester and find another keyed power source, or just bite off the existing cigarette lighter leads. That way you can keep the socket, and hide that ugly GPS wire.
I just bought the same one, for the same reason, for the wife's car. It's a balmy ZERO with the wind chill factor right now, but hopefully I'll get it in next week.
