90-95 corvette ZR-1 filter replaces titans small filter...
i posted this in a different thread and no one replied so i'm making a new one to see if anyone is interested.
any one wanna try a corvette ZR-1 filter on their titan? i changed my oil recently and i used one of my many Nissan filters i have. like i said earlier the probe i have uses a mobil 1 m1-110 and the titan uses the same filter. the ZR-1 filter is a mobil 1 m1 207 filter and it fit just fine on the probe gt i have, just had to clean the mounting surface from the road grime where the filter didn't cover it. i have no leaks, better oil flow it seems. the only issue on the titan that i can see is that little drain thing for the filter might be in the way of the filter fitting on, could be taken off i guess. also if the mounting surface is large enough to accommodate the larger rubber gasket seal to the mounting surface.
just a though if someone want to try it as an alternative to buying the Stillen large filter and adapter kit for the oil cooler, since all you have to do is go to your local part store. mine didn't have the filter in stock when i wanted it for my probe so check the avaliabilty on it before you do a oil change.
some1 interested in trying this that needs a oil change soon?
worst case you'd be out 10 bucks for the filter.

You can go for an oil filter that's LONGER than the one we have, you just have to keep the width the same. It's going to leak because it won't sit right...even if you think it fits. I'd be very careful. I have to think that if Nissans engineers thought it was needed, they'd have give us a larger filter. Wwe have people here with over 100k miles on their Titans. It's not needed apparently.

shouldn't be any problems as long as it mounts correctly and the drain doesn't get in the way. i doubt my probe i have had anything other then the factory filter when i got it with 200,000 miles and when i read the posts on probetalk i tried it and it works out good for it. it had a annoying tick in the valve train that the filters volume seemed to fix to a certain extent, sounded a lot better after i put the ZR-1 filer on. and it has 204,000 miles on it now, still runs like a champ, just need a tune up come spring and then time to start modding.

a little extra oil capacity and possible better flow of oil. it brought the capacity of oil on the probe up to approx 5qt from 4.5qt.

i know it not needed but i just threw it out there as an option is someone wanted to try after i found out the probe and titan have the same filter and the ZR-1 works well on the probe.
do you know the part number for the longer filter? i might try the ZR-1 filter if no one else want to since i need them from the probe anyway. guess i will see if it works in about 2.5 months.

it did quiet down the tick on the probe and added extra capacity for oil, i don't know if it will help the titan at all, but it did help out a 2.5 liter v6 with 200,000 miles.

You are comparing our VK56 to a Ford Probe V6 in generalities? Maybe with a riding lawnmower I would attempt it but to just guess and put a different filter on is a bit risky to me. It's the way these trucks sound, the tick you hear. Several DOHC motors sound like that. only way I would consider anything other than the recommended size is if i went to a remote filter setup.

this was no normal tick((((on the probe not the titan)))), it was a distinct ticking that would be quite loud at times and since i changed the filter and oil its much better sounding. example when i first got the car and go through a drive through all i hear is the engine ticking away, now its quiet and i can actually hear the person saying "order when your ready"
how is it risky if you never even done it or heard of it till now, i even posted links to probe talk about people using the ZR-1 on the probe and its THE SAME as the titans and it the ZR-1 works on the probe it MIGHT just MIGHT work on the titan. i don't see why you are so reluctant to even accept this idea. as long as there is room there with the drain thing being there, and the filter can seal to the mounting surface it will work just fine.

Re: 90-95 corvette ZR-1 filter replaces titans small filter...
If my motor sounded like you say yours did on your Probe, then I might consider it. I accept the valve train noise and my motor is tip top shape. Why would one want to go and possibly bunghole it all up if nothing is wrong? It's not that I am reluctant, we have discussed this and came to the conclusion that our filters are very capable of handling the task at hand.

the KL engines in probes are known to tick to a certain extent so i tried this "quick fix" and it helped me out. i know the titans have noise as well and mine runs just great to, but it might have just little edge on oil flow volume that the factory filter cant supply especially at high rpms that just might help. like i said it was just something i wanted to throw out there after i saw the titan has the filter the probe does and the vette ZR-1 works well on it.
i have been using nissan filters since day 1 and i am very happy but if i cam improve on the size of the filter for a few more bucks, well less i think the factory filter is like 13 bucks or something, it worth a shot for me since i have good results from my probe, as long as it fits on the titan with no issues.

Some run a 0W40 or 30 weight oil to stop the noise. Some have used the big filter kits. Some run a remote setup. If you do it, then let us know how it goes.

i will let ya guys know
i dont wanna use too thick of an oil i use 5w-30 in winter and 10w-30 in the summer, winter is cold in WI and i want good oil flow in the freZZZZing cold at start up.
depending if the ZR-1 filter fits with out too much hassle, i was looking into filter relocation kits, but i though this would be a quick easy way of upgrading with out doing too much work.
